Job summary

Job Overview: (Note - In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required)

·  To positively support the Home Manager and Deputy Manager in providing leadership to the care staff within the service.

·  To plan and provide all aspects of nursing care to residents.

·  To oversee effective medication management within the home.

·  To lead the care team in the provision of a high standard of care to every resident.

·  To provide day-to-day shift management.

·  To maintain appropriate clinical nursing and leadership skills as required for the role.

·  To manage the service in accordance with the standards agreed with the Registered Manager and Registered Provider, legislative requirements, relevant regulations and in line with accepted best practice.

·  To provide supervision and leadership for identified team members and student nurses on placement in the home.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Role-specific Duties:

The Registered Nurse’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

·  Ensuring that residents are at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences are met to enhance their wellbeing

·  Undertaking care planning activities for residents to meet changing physical, psychological and social needs, taking into consideration privacy, dignity, personal choice and informed consent

·  Ensuring care plans are developed and reviewed in a timely way and in collaboration with residents, their families and friends (where appropriate), and members of the multidisciplinary team

·  Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records for all residents

·  Undertaking all aspects of medicine management in line with legal, professional and regulatory requirements

·  Promoting and protecting the welfare of residents at all times

Working with Others:

·  Developing effective working relationships with all employees within the home

·  Providing regular supervision for identified care team members

·  Working in cooperation with members of the multidisciplinary team and seeking appropriate interventions from the multidisciplinary team where this is assessed as beneficial for a resident

Other Duties:

·  Seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth

·  Providing leadership for the care and nursing functions of the home

·  Providing nursing care in accordance with current best practice, to the organisation’s policy, procedures and agreed standards, legislative requirements and relevant regulations under the direction of the Home / Deputy Manager

Personal and Professional Development:

·  Completing mandatory training and any other training, as directed by the Home / Deputy Manager

·  Being registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and working within the Code of Conduct

·  Complying with NMC requirements for revalidation, which requires, among other measures, obtaining practice-based feedback, reflective discussions, written self-reflections on practice, and obtaining confirming evidence of continued adherence to the NMC codes of practice from a health care professional, normally the line manager.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Previous care home experience would be an advantage but is not essential
  • as full support and induction will be provided.
