Job Summary

Care Home Maintenance Officer

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Maintenance Officer to ensure our care home remains safe, comfortable and well maintained for our residents, staff and visitors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Complete general repairs, including basic joinery, plumbing, decorating and minor electrical work.
  • Carry out routine checks of fire doors, emergency lighting, water temperatures, equipment and the building’s safety systems.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, maintenance logs and inspection documents.
  • Identify defects and ensure repairs are completed promptly.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain bedrooms, communal areas, gardens and external grounds.
  • Support room refurbishment and preparation.
  • Manage maintenance supplies, tools and stock.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent maintenance issues.
  • Follow health and safety, infection-control and fire-safety procedures.
  • Work respectfully around residents and minimise disruption to their daily lives.

About You

You should have:

  • Previous maintenance or facilities experience, preferably in a care home, healthcare or similar environment.
  • Practical skills in joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety and fire-safety requirements.
  • The ability to maintain clear and accurate compliance records.
  • A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • A friendly, respectful and patient manner when working around older people.
  • The ability to work independently and prioritise urgent tasks.

Relevant trade qualifications and experience of Legionella monitoring, fire-safety checks or portable appliance testing would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a PVG check and provide satisfactory references.
