Job Summary

Maintenance Person

About you

Our Maintenance Person plays a vital role in making sure Gibraltar Nursing Home remains a safe, comfortable and a homely place to live and work. From carrying out day-to-day repairs and general maintenance to supporting with regular health and safety checks, your work helps ensure that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Whether it’s fixing a door, touching up paintwork or decorating a bedroom, your attention to detail and pride in your work will make a real difference to the lives of our residents and team. Every day, you’ll help maintain a home that everyone can feel proud of.

To be part of our team, we look for someone who has a kind and caring nature and be a people-person; the people we care for are at the core of everything we do, no matter what role you play.

So, what will I be doing?

As a Maintenance Person at Gibraltar Nursing Home, your responsibility is to maintain a safe and well-presented home. Along with the day-to-day upkeep of the home, there will be a responsibility to keep maintenance books up to date with monthly audit checks, this will include weekly fire alarms, equipment and hot water temperature checks.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Emergency call-outs are infrequent but will be required and weekend cover (on a 1 in 3 rotation) will be shared among the other maintenance team members.

Not essential but beneficial: Other Areas of Skills Needed for this Role:

Plumbing

Electrical

Carpentry

Roofing

Tiling

Who else will I be working with?

We have a one-team approach throughout the home.  Even though you’ll have your own responsibilities, working alongside you will be two other Maintenance Persons, Gardener, Laundry Assistants, Care Assistants, Kitchen Team, Administrators and Home Manager.  An example of a one-team approach would be if a Care Assistant saw a tap dripping, they wouldn’t ignore it because it’s “not their job”, they would turn it off and if they see it’s broken, come and find you to let you know.

Will I be interacting with the people living in the home?

Most definitely.  Imagine if you were visiting one of your own family members, you would have a chat, maybe help to solve a crossword, have a cuppa together …  it’s important to not only forge friendships with team members but with the people that live in the home also.

If you would like more information regarding this role and what life is like at Gibraltar Nursing Home, then please make contact and we will be happy to talk through the role and/or set up an interview.
