Finding the first ever radio broadcast of resident, Alan Sykes

Upon hearing about Alan’s past career as a Radio Presenter, we learnt he used to be a presented for BBC Radio. In fact, Alan Sykes was the first ever presenter for BBC Radio Manchester when it first aired in September 1970! How fascinating is that?

Even more incredible, we were able to find Alan’s first ever broadcast and a photograph from his time in the studio. Alan was particularly in awe of the photograph, which he wasn’t even aware existed. But the moment we saw the photo we recognised him right away!

Sitting down with Alan, we shared our findings and he took us with him on a trip down memory lane, telling us amazing stories from the day they first broadcasted BBC Radio Manchester – to his hilarious exchanges with music sensations ABBA and Errol Brown.
