A Dementia Ambassador at Brunel House Care Home in Corsham has won a new award at the Maria Mallaband Care Group Care Awards – internal awards open to employees of the group’s homes around the UK.

New this year the Always You Dementia Award – the first dementia category in the MMCG awards - went to Dementia Ambassador Stacy Perkins, at Brunel House, where she is seen as ‘an absolute asset.’

The annual awards are the highlight of the calendar for Maria Mallaband Care Group (MMCG), which has over 80 care homes across the UK. The awards shine a spotlight on employees working in every role and every part of the group, acknowledging and thanking them for their exemplary work.

Stacy Perkins has worked at MMCG for more than a decade, starting out as a carer, moving up to senior carer, then care practitioner, before becoming a lifestyle coordinator and latterly a Dementia Ambassador.

Dementia Ambassadors are a new role within MMCG. These especially trained leaders in dementia care work in homes educating colleagues, role modelling best practice and sharing the latest evidence-based strategies. Stacy chose to specialise in this role in order to spend more time with the people living in the home. She said: “I am passionate about our approach to dementia care and our Dementia Pledge, built on the tenet of ‘Always you’. It is our promise to always see the person for who they are. “Our ethos is based on individualised care and supporting people living with dementia to live well and as independently as possible, so they can continue to lead a respected, fulfilling life. “The most important part of my job is finding out about those in our care – who they are as individuals, and all about their lives up until this point. That is the best way in begin caring for someone in a truly personalised, respectful and compassionate way. “To be nominated for an award and then go on to win it, and to be recognised by my colleagues for a job I love doing feels absolutely amazing.” The MMCG Awards Winners, chosen by a panel of expert judges, were announced at an awards ceremony on June 13th, at Grantley Hall in the Yorkshire Dales.

Sally Harrison-Exton, Director of Lifestyle and Marketing at MMCG said: “Huge congratulations to all our worthy winners who were chosen from a field of excellent nominees, all of whom displayed our MMCG values in abundance. “As always, the awards night was a very special, moving and celebratory event, when we all took a moment to reflect on the incredible hard work, passion, teamwork, positivity, innovation, compassion and kindness shown by our colleagues around the UK. “It makes us all so proud to be part of the MMCG family. Everyone went away feeling energised and inspired by what they’d heard about the wonderful work happening across this group, with those living with us first always at the heart of all we do.”
