This is a fantastic care home. Management listen and understand the needs of the occupant. All staff are a pleasure to engage with and more than competent in what they do.

My sister and I, we are very happy with the staff, we think she's well looked after, we can get a cup of tea when we want one; there is a lot of activities she could partisipate in if she wanted to.

The staff here are brilliant! My friend was admitted as an emergency on a weekend and was welcomed with open arms and looked after really well. Can't fault the staff. Admin, nurses, catering and cleaning staff all went out of their way to make his stay as comfortable as possible.

My mother has now been a resident at Brunel House for eighteen months and from being very frail and ill when she moved in, she has had a new lease of life and feels happy and secure here, surrounded by the warmth, care and attention of all the exceptional, wonderful staff.
It has been a huge relief
to us, her family, to see how well she is looked after; with respect, patience, understanding and kindness and we feel we could not have chosen a better home for her.
She often joins in the daily activities that are provided at Brunel House and is able to voice her opinion and contribute to ideas such as menus, trips out etc. at the frequent residents' meetings that are held.
The staff here try very hard to enhance the outdoor space for the residents with a gardening club, flower planting etc. and if I have any niggles it would be that I think they should be more supported from the home's headquarters with a proper gardener on site for regular maintenance.
Otherwise, wonderful!

The care and attention given to my mother in law has been excellent. Despite being bed bound the staff have shown her immense care and attention and talk to her to make her feel special. They treat her with dignity and respect. They make the time to talk to her. The food is excellent and my mother
in law always looks forward to a cake in the afternoon.

The more for my mother into Brunel House was very smooth with a big emphasis on ensuring my mothers new room felt like home. From the moment I looked around Brunel House I knew it was the right care home for my Dad from the warmth & kindness from all of the staff. They were also really supportive and helpful with managing Dad's move and have all made him feel so welcome.
He has settled in well and is always telling me how
kind everyone is. As a family we really appreciate how well Dad's individual needs have been met and the continuous programme of activities and support available to support him with his dementia.

Now our dad has been moved floors, he's so much happier, he has the garden to look at through the window, staff on that floor seem to have more time for Dad, he's eating well and sleeping better. Can't thank Brunel House staff enough for what they are doing, lovely care home.

Overall, all level of staff members are very caring, professional, attentive and strive to go above and beyond where possible. Mom has learned to know the various people around the routines etc. and is very content.

My mother has had to go into residential care and we could not have chosen a better place for her. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and clean, Mum says the food is delicious, and nothing is too much trouble. Mum has settled really well, is joining in with the activities
(despite not being a very sociable person!) and has made new friends. As a family, we have felt very well supported and all the staff have been so kind and helpful. We cannot rate the team and facilities at Brunel House highly enough.

My mum was a resident for just over 6 months. Her dementia had got to the stage where it was no longer safe for her to live in her own home. She was admitted to Brunel straight from hospital. She had a lovely room on the 1 st floor, and it was always clean and tidy. My mum could be a challenge at times
but she seemed very settled here, and I knew that she was safe and secure 24 hours a day. The care ,support and encouragement from the staff was excellent. All the staff I encountered were always friendly and informative, and were on hand when I needed an update on mums continuing health or concerns.

Completely love what Brunel is all about - the staff care level is perfect! Like everyone in the industry, there are occasional staffing level issues, but all the staff are faultless. They have all contributed to a superb quality of life for my crazy aunt; the staff have to put up with her! We all have
absolute faith in Brunel's ability to deliver on promises, and they have consistently done so over the last 18 months - she looks ten years younger! We would never consider moving her; she is very happy and settled and continues to get up mischief. A massive thank you to Brunel for everything! Well done guys; thank you so much.

My grandmother has been living at Brunel House for a year and I have recommended the home to others. I disagree with a previous review saying the home is unsafe for the following reasons. I visit daily, for periods of up to 6 hours. As my grandmother is 100 she sleeps a lot so I spend some time in the
common parts and I can honestly say I have never seen safety as a issue. The entrance door is sometimes left open, weather permitting, as the ground floor is a residential floor and those residents need, want and deserve the right to wander in and out to sit on the chairs and get fresh air. Reception is manned by two charming ladies and when they are not on duty I have found the door closed. The lower and upper floors are secure units with key codes to open doors and operate the lift.
Over the past 15 years I have spent most of my time in 5 different care homes as one family member after another has succumbed to dementia and I have to say Brunel is the best, by far.

Safety an issue as the main door is left open. Reception into the main body of the home is left open, this is a risk as unauthorised people can enter the home. Reception is not manned at all times.
Also, there is potential for residents to leave the home and staff would not know where they are.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review and I’m sorry you felt some areas were not up to the standard that you would expect. We do have several people living with us who like to spend time in the reception area, so the door into the main part of the home is not always locked during office hours to accommodate their wishes. There was one occasion when there was a concern about a door left open, but since then when the door is unlocked there is always someone in the reception area to ensure it is secure.

Throughout my brother's stay at Brunel House, I have found his care to be faultless. He was always clean and his room was tidy. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and there was never a care home whiff that I recall in other establishments! I always recall his first phone conversation after he moved
in... "I have lots of friends here, we have a really good time". It would be difficult to overstate my relief and gratitude when I heard this. He stayed with you for three and a half years... Thank you so much!

Xyza

Xyza Macutay-Malloch BEM

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2025

Xyza (Sam) is the Home Manager at Brunel House. She joined MMCG in 2024 as a Senior Operations Manager and was offered the role in Brunel House in January.


She qualified as a nurse in the Phillipines and moved to the UK in 2009 to work in social care. In 2017 she was promoted to a Home Manager role at Kingsley House in Tetbury. She was honoured to awarded the British Empire Medal in 2021 for her service during the Covid pandemic.


When Sam is not at work, she is very active in the community as a Parish Councillor in Tetbury and is the Co-Founder and Director for 'Philipinos in Care' looking after pastoral needs and organising social events.

Lisa

Lisa Bendle

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager Joined: 2025

Lisa joined the Brunel House team in 2025 and has brought a wealth of experience with her. She has worked in the care industry for 35 years, most recently at Dorothy House Hospice.
She qualified as an RGN in Bristol and has worked in Southampton, Bath and was a District Nurse before joining Dorothy House.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking her dog and watching her son play football on the sidelines, even when the weather is blustery.

Milan Thebe

Job Title: Clinical Lead Joined: 2024

Milan has been at Brunel House since 2024 as a bank nurse and was promoted to Clinical Lead in 2025.


She qualified as a nurse in 2013 in Oxford, and practiced in Frimley Park Hospital where she achieved promotions to Junior Sister and Practice Development Nurse. She moved to Great Western Hospital in Swindon alongside being a bank nurse at Brunel House.


Outside of work, she spends time with her young children, trains for half marathons and enjoys travelling the globe.

Mel Applegate

Job Title: Administrator Joined: 2021

I love interacting with the residents at Brunel House as I carry out my administration duties. I provide support to the Home Manager, Deputy Manager, relatives and residents, as well as other departments within the home.


My biggest achievement whilst working here has been understanding the payroll admin because it was very difficult to get to grips with. It felt like learning a foreign language!
When I'm not at work, I like to spend time with family and friends; we go to the cinema or to the races.

I've worked at Brunel House since 2016. I enjoy working in Reception and meeting all the relatives (they actually become friends after a while).


I have met a lot of very interesting people and shared many ups and downs with them. I believe it's nice to see a friendly face when you walk into the home and try to give a happy vibe to visitors.


I also get the chance to make friends with a lot of the residents and help them in whatever way I can.
I work with a lot of very nice, caring people of all age groups- I like that, especially as I am one of the oldest members of staff!

Job Title: Dementia Ambassador Joined: 2013

Hi, my name is Stacy and I am the Dementia Ambassador at Brunel House. My role as an ambassador is to promote person-centred care of the highest standard. I have recently qualified as a trainer with the Alzheimer's Society, this will play a key role in raising awareness and understanding of dementia, and make a positive difference to our residents by empowering our team to develop good practice.


I have worked within the care sector for 19 years and have been at Brunel House since 2013. Whilst at Brunel House I trained as a Care Practitioner and have also worked as an Activities coordinator.


Delivering activities and social events remains a big part of who I am. To make someone smile or hear them laugh, to be the person who has brightened someone's day, to be the ears to listen and the arms that comfort, to redirect thoughts and feelings that may shadow them at times: this is the best feeling in the world.


I live locally with my husband and two daughters. Family is everything to me and we spend our spare time creating cherished memories.

Hi, I'm Chelsea and I am a Care Practitioner, I completed my training whilst working at Brunel House.

I have worked at Brunel House for 6 years, although I have worked in care for 12 years. The best bit about my role as a Care Practitioner is the clinical practice and admin management of the floor whilst still being able to participate fully with the residents.


The accomplishment I'm most proud of is the creation of the dementia floor which I view as an excellent model to achieve the best possible outcomes for maintaining the quality of life.


When off-duty I love online gaming and I read a lot of sci-fi books, The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings are among my favourites. I also like to explore the local Box hills and have been caving in the Boxwoods!
