Howgate House Care Home

from Jason H (Son of Resident) published on 19 September 2025
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
~Having looked at 2 other homes, I picked up on Howgate's sense of homeliness, which was not apparent at others. We were very pleased to find that the staff are caring, dedicated individuals who genuinely enjoy their role, which resulted in a low staff turnover and familiar faces throughout. Fun activities
were put on daily by enthusiastic staff & excellent visiting entertainers, family members encouraged to join in & be part of the community. Staff sorted out any necessary admin without prompting and were always proactive in keeping me updated with mum's progress. I found Howgate a compassionate, caring, professional & homely place and was very pleased with all the staff and the care received by my mum, which is all that we could have hoped for.
Reply from Paulina Drzewiecka, Home Manager at Howgate House Care Home

Thank you very much for your lovely review regarding our home. The homeliness is extremely important, so our residents and their loved ones feel like at home. We are all very grateful for such a lovely description of the care we deliver to your mum. We are going to continue to provide your mum with person-centred care and love she needs.

Dad has been in Pinewood since March this year. He was impressed by the home and the staff on the day he came to view.
The staff cannot be kinder, nothing is too much trouble and I no longer have no worry that Dad is on his own. Thank you everyone.

I have found all staff friendly, welcoming and caring. It is quite obviously challenging to deal with patients and am more than happy. It would be nice to see the garden for dementia patients tidied up properly.

Prior to my visit, had contact with various members of staff who were extremely helpful. Following my first visit I was very impressed with the reception I received by all members of staff. I was escorted to the floor for my visit. When I spoke to members of staff for an update on my brother in law.
They were all very helpful and excellent visit from start to finish, great atmosphere. In the home mentions - Receptionists, admin staff, 1-1 carers nursing floor & nurses on duty.

I have found the care provided for my father in law to be of a very high standard. The manager has been a Godsend in helping us navigate our way through the care system and her kind and friendly manner means she is very approachable. Another lady has been so very much hands on and a great help in so
many areas of my father in laws care. The level of care from the clinical lead is outstanding and the care shown to my father in law is second to none.

I have visited on several occasions this month and every time have been greeted by friendly staff with smiles on their faces. I have always been treated with courtesy and I am given the impression that nothing is too much trouble for them. I help take the resident out by wheelchair and they are always
ready to go and have necessary weather protection with them. The place is always clean and smells nice, unlike my recollection of many years ago of similar places.

The staff are always happy and friendly, and they know our families names when they visit my mum. The building is well maintained and kept very clean, and the security is carefully monitored.
Meals have improved and the staff are helpful and considerate with the residents even when they are being awkward.
The
only issue is that out of office hours it can be hard to get admitted, though I appreciate that the staff's priorities lie with the residents, and they may be busy.

Corinthian House Nursing & Care Home

When his money ran out to pay full fees for his previous home, and the only option to keep him there was to pay top-up fees we couldn't afford, we had to move Dad to a no top-up fees home. The whole process was challenging and draining, but finding Corinthian House was a breath of fresh air!
The whole
set-up is head and shoulders above Dad's previous home, which was a quick selection during Covid, when options were limited.
Since moving, Dad has recieved a much better level of care and the family are well informed and kept up to date. Dad is brighter and smarter in appearance and has had the warmest of welcomes. Nothing is too much trouble and visiting is more if a pleasure for us all. We wish we had had the luxury of more choice 4 years ago, as Corinthian House would have won!
We're grateful to everyone there, without exception- a truly wonderful place.

I spent 4 weeks at Windsor Court Care Home for respite care following an operation. Throughout that time, the staff were very friendly and helpful and made my life as easy as possible. My dad was here for 2 weeks respite, 4th-8th August. The initial home visit by the manager went ok. 5 times we had to keep reminding the staff to put denture adhesive in Dad's teeth. The toilet was in a bad state 6 times during Dad's stay. Poo left on wall for over 1x week, stale urine on the toilet
floor. Very poor cleaning. Disappointed.
