Reviews

7.2 River View Care Centre has a Review Score of 7.2 (7.156)

The Review Score of 7.2 (maximum of 10) for River View Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for River View Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 3.833 for River View Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 3.833

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.323 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for River View Care Centre is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 27.4 positive Reviews (137 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 27.4 Target = 0.073

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My step-mother has been resident at Riverview for just over a year. The care the Nursing and Care assistants give is excellent, they are friendly, treat her with dignity and we are very grateful for their superb approach. They are always approachable and I've not been able to find any fault whatsoever in their care of my relative. I will add that care from the local hospital was not as good as Riverview in our experience.
The staff do a better job with fewer resources, and it is noticeable there are fewer members of staff at the weekend.
The home itself is clean and safe. It is looking a little tired and could do with some refurbishment in some areas.
We are very happy to know our relative is safe and well looked after.

Mum is currently being looked after at River View. She's very poorly and confused with advanced Alzheimers and other issues but the staff are lovely with her. She needs help with all areas of her life but they do it without complaint and with humour. We had tried another home for mum before moving her into River View but were very disappointed.

The family are able to visit at any time and can go off to the kitchen and make ourselves a tea or coffee. These two (what could be classed as) minor things make life for our family.

Our thanks to everyone who makes mum's life easier and more meaningful.

Janet Varndell, home manager at River View Care Centre responded to this review on 07 Feb 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comments and feedback and we are very pleased to hear that you and your family are having a positive experience here at the home. We try and create an environment that supports residents and families to feel like this in their home, and we are happy that you find the visiting times and tea and coffee facilities make your life easier during your mother’s stay.

I cannot fault the day staff but the night/agency staff are appalling. They lack compassion and it is always different staff which confuses dementia patients. The food is quite frankly disgusting and the same thing is served every day. The home is under-staffed and the day staff work so hard, but are always short. Why don't you pay more to permanent staff then you wouldn't need to pay agency/bank staff. It just doesn't make sense. Your website refers to fresh home cooked meals by a chef. No chef on site!!!

Sian Johnson, Call Coordinator at River View Care Centre responded to this review on 24 Nov 2016:

Many thanks for leaving a comment relating to care in our home, we value the feedback that you have given. A number of changes have taken place within the home recently, including the recruitment of new, permanent staff. We are continually looking at ways to improve our home and would be happy to have a discussion with you in person to gather some more of your valuable feedback.

My father was in the latter stages of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. This is a rare neurological disease with no cure and is so very cruel. The staff here were amazing. So very caring and attentive. They all took the symptoms of and to understand PSP. We always felt dad was comfortable and felt safe. I cannot thank these lovely ladies enough for everything you did for dad - you all made him so comfortable and nothing was ever a trouble. My family and I cannot thank you enough. Dad was very very fond of you all and if he were able to tell you, he would most definitely have told you so. This nursing home is a special place, one that practices respect & well being. My memories will always be of the staff and how happy dad was - thank you to all the ladies on Oaks Ward - very special people.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review Tracy. Our compassionate team of staff at River View Centre recognise the individual needs of our residents and are consistent in providing a high-level of care to all within the home. It is lovely to hear that your Dad developed close friendships to the home's staff through their care and assistance and that he always felt at ease throughout his time living there.
