The care staff are lovely but there is not enough of them! They work to a deadline and do not have time to stop and chat to the residents. The evening meal is awful. Today when I was with mum she got a mayo sandwich with three bits of grated cheese and a piece of limp lettuce and the bread was hard on the edges. Mum did not eat anything. The is the same standard of sandwiches every evening.

My brother has been in Riverview for about ten years. He was a very clever man he passed his eleven plus at ten and a half went to grammar school and on to Oxford University and got his BA in English. He has 40 years plus in Reading and when he got ill, it was a shock hence River View. I must say I live in North Wales so not always possible to get down to see him but I have peace of mind he's looked after very well. We have video calls and I can see he's kept nice and clean and if any problems someone is on the phone. The staff are really good nothing is too much. A big thank you to everyone who cares for my brother. Many thanks to you all.

Reply from Debi Hayes, Business Development Manager at The Devonshire

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. Your brother is part of the River View team here now as he's lived here for 10 years. He is loved and well looked after and thought very highly of. He is quite happy joining in with our activities and a winner at bingo quite often! He also enjoys your virtual visits very much.

Yes very good since my adopted mother has been at the home. Riverview Care Home has done everything it can to make her days at the home great and full of fun, using her brain and being active in one room. The staff have been great and consistent with good care.

My review is on Cherry ward - the room was very run down and dirty. The ward was upsetting seeing patients in their rooms and calling out. Had a very strong smell of body odours, food, people not well, bed wetting etc. TV room, depressing, dining room grubby.

Staff well presented. Excellent care is given to patients. Feel sorry for the workload and conditions they have to work in.

Each time I have visited I have always found all the staff very helpful and cooperative. My brother always seems happy and content which tells me all is well with him and River View. I cannot answer the 'Value for Money' question as I do not have any dealings with the financial arrangements. Covid has obviously given the staff extra work but as a visitor, I would say they have maintained safety and carried out testing very efficiently and professionally.

Reply from Debi Hayes, Business Development Manager at The Devonshire

Thank you for your kind words and support. Of course, Covid has created a lot more work for everyone but we are happy that you can see the lengths that the team are following. We look forward to welcoming you again.

The home is clean and bright, the rooms are very comfortable and the lounge is cosy with plenty of armchairs and coffee tables. Staff are attentive and food and drink is always available. However, it is not always easy to find a staff member to discuss problems and we have trouble with laundry and clothes are missing.

Reply from Debi Hayes, Business Development Manager at The Devonshire

My dad was admitted here from the hospital as he was neglecting himself and his family were finding it difficult to keep safe due to his confusion. He went from a person who was able to move around, make a cup of tea and dress himself to being bedbound within six weeks of admission!

My mum is relaxed and happy since moving into this care home. Most of the staff I have come across seem to know her by name, which is a positive sign of the care provided. I have also arranged some video calls, which were well organised. The care home is very clean and well maintained. My mum looks well.

I have always found River View to be a very caring centre. Staff and carers have always been very good with my brother and show sincerity and concern. He has been at River View for almost 4 years and there has been no cause for concern on any occasion. I would have no hesitation in recommending River View to friends and family.

My father has been a resident at River View since September 2020. He is being well looked after. He always looks clean and well dressed and is happy. He gets involved with the cooking (he has recently made some Valentine's biscuits), and he enjoys drawing and colouring-in pictures. All the staff, I think, are highly professional, gentle and kind, and they are always cheerful.
