Mum has lived in Kings Manor for the last 2 years. Unfortunately she has now passed away. The care, compassion and kindness of every single staff member has been second to none. The management team were fantastic with us when trying to negotiate entry to the care system. The lifestyle team were great
at getting Mum involved in any activity that was on offer. The catering team were all lovely and Mum enjoyed interaction with them. The nursing team have been absolutely amazing, especially in Mums final months. They have looked after all her needs, with kindness and compassion, and have also supported us as a family, and for that we are very thankful. I also can't leave out the Admin team who have always been quick to answer any questions and have been very approachable. The cleanliness of not only Mums room but the home as a whole is always exceptional. Now that Mum is no longer here we are going to miss them all as part of our extended family.
Reply from Marita Westaway, Home Manager at Kings Manor Care HomeThank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. It's lovely to hear how supported you've felt during these first few weeks, and how much it means to know your husband is treated with dignity and genuine care. Messages like this are deeply appreciated by the whole team.

My father moved to Kings Manor a few weeks ago - I am his eldest daughter. He has been treated with the utmost respect and all his needs have been catered for. He has been assessed for hearing and swallowing and he is back to eating normal food. He is a bit more chatty and verbalising well. The staff
are all very caring and respectful, also approachable. I'm very happy with his care.

The kindness, care, professionalism and compassion shown by all the staff was exemplary. The facility itself is superb - clean, incredibly comfortable and modern. My wife could not have had better care than here at Kings Manor. Thank you for all you did for my wife, and us as a family.

My mum had been into this care home for six weeks. I am so happy for mum to be there being very comfortable so happy, wonderful amazing carers manager, reception staffs. Mum is much well looked after, lovely clean room, good meals, like a happy family home. I'm deaf to myself the staff are much understanding
of deaf awareness. This place is definitely great care home, far much better than other care homes that my mum used to lived.
Reply from Marita Westaway, Home Manager at Kings Manor Care HomeThank you for your lovely review, it was a privilege to look after your mum during her last weeks, and I am so pleased that you were able to spend some quality time with her.It is pleasing to hear that the team were so supportive, and I will convey your feelings to them.

The staff at the care home have been amazing. They are incredibly caring and understanding of residents' needs. I believe the management has been excellent in having such good staff. The food is superb. The Chefs put together a varied diet/choices and it is always extremely good. I have eaten there
quite often and the food is always delicious. The lifestyle staff are also phenomenal. They put on a varied programme of activities and keep the residents very well entertained. The outings they do are also great. It's lovely to think that residents frequently get out to the beach or local garden centres for example and can enjoy a coffee or an ice cream. I would say King Manor is a lovely environment and extremely well managed.

My mum was looked after from Feb 24 to Sept 24. She enjoyed a good chat with the staff. Who were very friendly towards her and I feel that they enjoyed her company as well.
The rooms are nice, and spacious and were kept clean overall all but more could have been done.
The care was very good, however
at times also a little lacking, this was due to staffing levels.
Towards the end of Mum's care, the end-of-life care seemed a little rushed and didn't flow as well as I thought, but this was all new to me. I was allowed to stay with my mum until she passed, which was very peaceful in the end. The staff looked after me and were very kind, nothing was rushed or too much for them.
Kings Manor is a lovely care home with wonderful staff, they all work hard and are passionate. It has a lovely aspect, the scenery around the building, the pleasant garden, and the balconies you can sit and chill out on.
I am happy my mum spent the end of her life here, I believe my mum was happy with the choice.
Thank you.

Dad came into Kings Manor back in June and has settled in. The staff are very attentive, caring, and professional, and always happy to chat with him and help my Dad. It is very comforting to us all especially my Mum that my Dad is comfortable and well cared for. However, we do feel that sometimes there
is a lack of communication between the staff and family. We also feel that the cleanliness of Dad's room is not always to the standard we would like. Overall we are happy with the home facilities, Dad's room, and importantly the care he receives. Thank you.
Reply from Marita Westaway, Home Manager at Kings Manor Care HomeMany thanks for your lovely review, it is so nice to hear that Dad has settled in well and that the team are happy to chat. Very poor communication between the staff members and resident's family members. I don't think the families are told enough about the residents health and safety. If the resident has been/or is unwell and is taking medication for it, then the families should be told.

My Dad was looked after in Kings Manor Care Home from May to October 2024. During this time all of the staff were caring, friendly, helpful, and professional. The environment was clean comfortable and pleasant with lovely views which Dad enjoyed. Dad settled after a while and enjoyed chatting to the
staff and other clients. Overall I feel Kings Manor was a good choice and gave Dad the best quality of life possible for him.

Easily the best option we looked at in the area. Great care, facilities, and staff. No residents are left sitting around in a circle in the lounge to entertain themselves. No faint aroma of urine which pervades quite a few homes.
Would heartily recommend it.

This is a great care home which is ideal for my father's care and health needs. It's a real team effort by all the different staff disciplines to deliver care with tact, humour and diplomacy. It's so good for the family to know that Father is safe and very well cared for - he even takes part in some
of the wide range of activities which are on offer. He enjoys the food and eats well.

My mother came to Kings Manor from the hospital after having broken her hip and with pressure sores, a UTI and an unwillingness to eat and drink. Working with the local GP she was prescribed antibiotics that she would actually take, she was turned at frequent intervals and kept clean and dry. The staff
were encouraging so that she drank nutritious drinks but would not eat. Finally, her body failed. At all times she was treated with care and dignity.

My husband who has now sadly died spent the last two months of his life at Kings Manor Care Home.
I simply couldn't speak too highly of the loving care he received while he was there. All the staff were kind, caring and considerate both to him and me when I visited. Kings Manor is indeed a huge asset
to the region and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to absolutely anyone.

My husband has been at Kings Manor Care Home since April this year. The home is well looked after and what makes the place is the staff, they are all so caring for my husband and myself. When I say all I mean all, everyone who works there. I was a bit dubious about the home but when I visited prior
to him going in, I knew this was a good place for him. All the family agree with me that he couldn't be in a better place.

My mother moved into Kings Manor in October 2019 aged 94 and died May 2023 aged 97 and a half. Throughout her time at Kings Manor she received excellent care, love and attention. She considered Kings Manor to be her home and the staff as her friends or even her extended family. 5 Members of Kings Manor
staff attended her recent funeral (making a round trip of 20+ miles) which says a lot about their attitude towards those in their care. Obviously the home is expensive, but in my opinion, well worth it.

Kings Manor have looked after my mother for 2 years because she needed more care than we could give her as a family and had worsening dementia. We wanted to know she was safe. The environment Mum lived in was happy and homely with an exceptional standard of care and Mum was always treated with dignity.
The nursing care that she received before passing away was also excellent.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the home as a place of care.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.826)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.826) out of 10 for Kings Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.318 for Kings Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.318
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.508 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kings Manor Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 10 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.758
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Cheryl is a ball of energy and is part of the Lifestyle team at Kings Manor. Her warmth and enthusiasm come from experience in customer-facing roles, including managing a Dog Kennel in Exeter before she joined the home.

She says the best part of her job is the time she spends with the people who live with us, putting a smile on their faces and making them feel part of the wider Kings Manor family.

Outside of work, Cheryl loves spending time with her grandchildren and having breaks away in her caravan.

'I love eating food just as much as I love cooking it! I grew up in a small village just outside Bristol and graduated from Brunel Catering College in 1994. I have worked in catering for many years and I am extremely excited to be moving on to a new chapter as Head Chef of Kings Manor and looking forward to bringing care home food to the modern era. In my spare time, I enjoy taking my dogs for long walks along the beach.'
