The Wharf Care Home

my father in law came here following a trip to the hospital where we were told he wouldn't recover and he was being placed on end of life care. from the moment we arrived we were met with staff who were welcoming and asked questions encouraging us to make the room ours to help father in law settle for his last few days. the staff were amazing all the carers were patient with my over protectiveness and me constantly telling them what to do as his one side was extremely painful. they listened and made my father in law comfortable each time. the nurses were great too nothing was too much if he was restless or agitated he had something to calm him. nothing was too much. the porter was an amazing funny guy again if you need something it was magically there. the kitchen, well if my husband could stay I'm sure he would, we chose to stay with father in law so they made sure we had food too there was no need for any of us to leave the room at all a fantastic home that goes above and beyond

Since arriving at The Wharf, my mother-in-law has settled in very well. She tells everyone she is loving her best life. I'm happy that she is happy.

Unfortunately today 8/9/26 was a day when the stars did not align. Fred has an appointment for an ECG at the local Drs. This was made at least 3 weeks ago for this morning because the bus was due for MOT no alternative transport had been considered. This is the 2nd cancellation for this appointment - not good organisation.

I feel the home has really gone down. There is a lot of agency staff who aren't experienced in my mum's needs. Good staff who I feel safe with handling my mum are leaving to go elsewhere which makes me very nervous. The food isn't great and my mum has just been having soup for dinner and tea. Care needs are brought up with the manager, but these aren't acted on and as a family member are made to feel a pain if we raise anything. Activities are inefficient for people that need one to one activities my mum is bored and depressed. No atmosphere in the home!!!!

Generally one of the better care homes in the area, but then the very high cost reflects that. Care generally good, but could do with more staff at night. Food is excellent. Usual problems in the laundry with clothes going missing so I do mom's washing now.

My dad has really settled into the care home been here nearly 6 months. He gets on well with the Staff & residents. The Staff have been so good supporting him with the loss of my mum (his wife). The staff are always friendly and helpful. I'm glad we choose this care home for my dad.

The staff at The Wharf are very pleasant and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. My mother moved in following 2 strokes in quick succession. Within a month her health and wellbeing had improved tremendously, thanks to the attentive care she has received. We held a tea party on my mother's birthday and the hositality manager went above and beyond - even serving refreshments while I looked after the guests ensuring the day was special. She has a lovely care assistant who brightens up my mother's day with her cheery disposition. Overall, everyone is very accommodating and I'm pleased we chose the wharf for my mother's care.

We found our friend looking much better and very happy with her care - thank you.

The care and attention given is exceptional

My dad went in june couldn't be more happy with how carers are so helpful and supportive my dad doing well he's suffering from dementia he all ways looks clean and happy it really is peace and mind for me to now he's being so well looked after thank you

We moved our 'fairly reluctant' mum into the wharf at the beginning of the year, but after a couple of weeks, the love, care shown to her by literally all the staff had persuaded her that it really was the best option for her. As her mobility deteriorated, their care became even more vital and she was always treated with respect, dignity and cheerfulness. (She loved a giggle) The nurses always kept us well informed and looked after her right until the end. Thank you all.

From the very first meeting when we came to view the wharf nursing home we were met with nothing but friendlyness and professionalism from the start. Throughout my brothers stay he had the highest level of care and compassion we could have wished for, we cannot thank you all enough.

Excellent standards of Care, the Care Staff are always friendly and upbeat even when they're extremely busy - which is often. They show huge amounts of empathy and compassion for the Residents and always promote independence where possible. The Wharf is always clean and smells fresh but retains a homely atmosphere. The food is outstanding - very similar to eating in a high end restaurant. A lot of effort is put into activities and lifestyle for Residents and it's wonderful to see Staff and Residents taking part in group activities, outings and sitting outside in the beautiful garden enjoying the sun. Management have always been very professional and approachable - and their high standards of care are demonstrated throughout the entire home.

Staff are always welcoming, professional and respectful. They show a keen interest in mom's personal life, when coming back from outings or family gatherings, they enjoy hearing what she's been doing and are so pleased that she's had a lovely time.

When things aren't going so well for mom, they are straight on to the issue and keep us informed. They actively chase medical follow ups on our behalf.

We feel part of a larger family now and the pressure of looking after mom 24/7 has been lifted so we can just enjoy the time we have together.

Nurses very good. Carers very good. Housekeeping, hospitality, activities good. Admin/reception good. My wife, the resident, is bound to her bed so cannot partake in most activities. The newer activities staff seem to be more proactive in bringing activities/company into her room. Staff always appear cheerful and responsive. A few months ago there seemed to be a shortage of staff so slow response, either due to holidays, sickness, or rota arrangements but in recent times it is less noticeable. I cannot comment on value for money. It seems expensive but I have no benchmark.

From the moment we first visited The Wharf Care Home, we knew it was something special. The warmth, professionalism, and genuine compassion shown by every member of staff is simply outstanding. The atmosphere is welcoming, peaceful, and filled with a sense of community that makes residents - and their families - feel truly at ease.

The team goes above and beyond not just in meeting daily needs, but in offering personal attention, engaging activities, and emotional support that makes a world of difference. The rooms are clean, bright, and comfortable, with thoughtful touches that help each resident feel at home.

We are so grateful for the exceptional care provided here. It's clear that staff treat residents like family - with dignity, kindness, and respect. The Wharf is not just a care home; it's a place where people are valued, nurtured, and genuinely cared for. Thank you for all you do!

Whitle staff are amazing they go beyond their duties very careing and understand the residents needs . Including staff are the home team who look after my husbands room and clothes always on top of things . My husband has been in the wharf nealy 4 years I don't think I would find a better place .

On the whole my relative was cared for. At times elements of care were sadly lacking depending on various factors affecting the home that day e.g. staffing, other residents, events on that day. I would have liked my relatives spiritual needs to be considered more. I often felt, particularly at weekends the ratio of staff to residents was insufficient, making it a different atmosphere. The staff intentions were well meaning. My relative had there respect form wishes met at times of infection. I was consulted in regarding upholding their respect wishes. On the whole the staff understood how to manage dementia & altzheimer residents. Support for the relatives is something that should be considered by a specialist nurse. The home becomes the constant for your relative but having someone to talk to, to understand the emotions you go through when visiting is vital. The longer they are in care the more you go through, to cope with each visit.

My husband died recently at The Wharf Nursing Home. He had only been there a short time. For many months previously I had been, desperately, trying to get Social Services to accept that he needed nursing care. When he arrived at The Wharf he was enveloped with love and care. His food was good quality and adjusted to his needs, likes, and ability to eat. His room was adjusted for his safety and enjoyment and those of his visitors. The carers were kind and understanding of his condition. Sadly his dementia, suffered for many years, had finally taken its toll. We were supported in my husband's final few days by the staff. He died surrounded by care and kindness. Thank goodness we had managed to move him to 'The Wharf '. Thank you to all of the wonderful, professional, loving staff.

All the staff at The Wharf gave my father great care, time and understanding. He enjoyed the conversations and the personal time shared. I could not praise the staff more. The great effort everyone put in from his arrival and settling, all through to his passing. The Wharf have a great team and the family would love to thank every one of them.
