Residents at Strachan House care home in Blackhall, have been enjoying the best of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, hosting an afternoon of entertainment, food and fun! Residents have had a fantastic time as the home was transformed into a vibrant theatre, providing an electric atmosphere for residents in their very own home.
Conceived by the Edinburgh Interfaith Association, Strachan house were honoured to be one of 7 Care homes taking part in this years Fringe cares festival, bringing delightful local and international performers to the home, championing inclusivity and promoting community connection.
The event has grown, and will continue to grow as the partnership between Barchester Healthcare, The Edinburgh Interfaith Association, Scottish Care and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society strengthens.
Residents and Staff of Strachan House, their loved ones, and members of the local community, enjoyed performances from some of the best artists at this year’s Fringe Festival. Headline act Tom Rolph lit up the stage, with an ode to our most loved and infamous stage plays and Street Performer Andie Mars wowed the audience with her athletic skills as she hula hooped her way into our memories with an energetic and interactive performance.
Attendees were treated to scrumptious food by The Tasty Hog Company with an outdoor food van providing an array of foods for all, set up to keep everyone satiated. The Strachan House catering team provided an array of delicious canapes throughout the day and prosecco was flowing!
Fran Fisher, General Manager at the home, said: “It was an honour to be a part of the Fringe Cares Festival once again, to promote inclusivity and bring the very best to our deserving residents. Working with such a wonderful, hard-working team has made me so proud and the success of the day is testament to all involved of the power of collaboration.”
Activity Lead Natasha Rubin stated: “We had everyone come together for this event, residents who do not normally join in were coming out and having a glass of bubbly, smiling and laughing, and that is why we do what we do: to bring joy.
The mid-afternoon rain was no feat for us, everyone rallied together to moved indoors and the show was back up and running in mere minutes, it was amazing to see everyone working together so cohesively. I am very proud of all those involved for such a successful afternoon.”
Robert Robertson, a resident at Strachan House commented: “I can remember going to the Edinburgh Festival many times with my wife over the years, I always had a great time seeing all kinds of different shows so it is wonderful to be able to watch some of the live performances again and to reminisce.”
