Up against stiff competition across the United Kingdom, Langham Court was judged to be richly deserving of the award with the home being led by an exceptional manager with staff who use all possible opportunities both inside the home and within the grounds to provide truly person-centred care for residents with dementia including those with early onset dementia.

Langham Court follows the Butterfly approach for dementia care which focuses on creating a family atmosphere where staff and residents are free to be themselves. There are no uniforms and with exceptionally high staff ratios, staff are encouraged to spend time with residents and build meaningful relationships. This is demonstrated by the recent ‘make a wish’ initiative where staff have invited residents’ relatives to continue to make memories with their loved ones – this could be supporting a visit to a special place or arranging a special occasion, such as taking a resident back to see friends at their golf club.

When asked what makes Langham Court so special, home manager Rochelle Casey says:

“The inspirational team who are heavily invested in all aspects of the residents’ wellbeing. Every member of our staff - carers, homemakers, housekeepers and management are part of our household and are involved in providing care and connection to our residents. This holistic approach really makes Langham Court standout”

The Dementia Care Awards are run by a charitable community benefit society who publish the journal of dementia.

On winning the award, Charlie Hoare, Managing Director, Huntington & Langham Estate said: “Winning this award is testament to the love and dedication that goes into providing the best care for every person and family that comes to Langham Court. It takes an amazing team to create an award-winning care home, and we could not be more proud”
