Claremont Parkway were visited yesterday by Aadil Patel from Specsavers Audiology who gave us a presentation on hearing loss, home visits, and a live hearing test demonstration for the residents.
Aadil explained the disadvantages of having a hearing problem and how that can affect our residents within the home. Loss of hearing can lead to isolation, depression and anxiety. Residents with poor hearing are more reluctant to join in with group activities and chatting with other residents, due to the fact that they are unable to hear the whole conversation or what is being asked of them, making them feel low and therefore withdrawing from socialising.
Afterwards our residents were given the opportunity to have a short hearing test. Many volunteered to try this out, some of which were not sure if they had any hearing problems.
The tests showed some deterioration; however, it was explained that a full hearing test could be arranged within the home and that it would be a free service! Our residents enjoyed the presentation and learned exactly how even slight hearing loss can affect their every day lives.
Aadil and the specialist Audiologist team from Specsavers have offered to open up their 'Free Home Hearing Test' service to the local community with Claremont Parkway care home hosting regular sessions. Please look out for the forthcoming event posters.
For more information, please call the home team on 01536 484494 or join us on our Open Day, Saturday 5th April to collect the Specsavers information leaflets.
