Fitness Fun with FitCare Scotland

At Dalgety Bay Care Home, supporting residents’ physical and emotional wellbeing is an important part of daily life. That’s why we were so pleased to welcome Bex from FitCare Scotland for a recent group fitness session, designed to get everyone moving and having fun together.

The aim of the session was simple: to bring residents together in a friendly and relaxed setting, where movement could be enjoyed without pressure. Physical activity is known to have wide-ranging benefits for older adults, from improving circulation and joint flexibility to supporting better balance and reducing the risk of falls. But beyond that, staying active can also help build confidence and lift mood, which is why we regularly incorporate exercise into our activity programme.

Bex delivered a carefully structured class using resistance bands and exercise balls, both of which help to gently strengthen muscles without putting strain on joints. Each activity was adapted to suit individual needs and fitness levels, ensuring that every resident could take part comfortably.

There was a noticeable sense of enjoyment and encouragement throughout the morning. Residents joined in with enthusiasm, supporting one another and sharing a laugh as they moved through the exercises. These moments of shared experience really matter as they help build friendships and bring a sense of community, which we know is just as important as the physical benefits.

Sessions like these are a great reminder that fitness doesn’t have to be strenuous to be effective. Regular, gentle movement helps older adults maintain independence, improve coordination, and reduce stiffness, all of which contribute to a better quality of life. Being active also helps stimulate the mind, improve sleep and can have a positive impact on overall wellbeing.
