MILFORD HOUSE HONOURS THE FALLEN WITH REMEMBRANCE PROGRAMME

Residents at Milford House Care Home in Salisbury participated in a number of events marking Remembrance Day. On Remembrance Sunday they wore poppies and heldoa service which observed the two minute silence but also enjoyed a fascinating talk on the well-known local military landmark The Fovant Badges from Dr Tony Phillips and Martin Wallis both members of The Fovant Badges Society. For the third year running, the home also hosted a Veterans Lunch where army veterans joined residents and shared memories and experiences both personal and of wider national significance. Finally, on Remembrance Day itself, residents were joined by students from the St Joseph’s School History Club who spent the morning making a poppy wreath with residents which was later placed on the special poppy remembrance sculpture in the home’s recently created ‘Remembrance Garden’.

A resident commented “ It was so special to meet and chat to the veterans and to see all the personal memorabilia that they brought to show us, in particular their uniforms, but it was also wonderful to share time with the pupils from St Josephs and to be able to mark this day with them . It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today and that we do this across the generations.

Juliana Santos, Deputy Manager at Milford House, said: “Wiltshire is a county that as a whole has huge ties to the military and this is reflected amongst our residents so it is was important to us to mark Remembrance Day and honour the contribution of everyone involved in the World Wars and in subsequent conflicts.”
