Here are some of the activities we have enjoyed over the past couple of weeks at Marigold House

On Monday 10th we enjoyed some Remembrance Day songs courtesy of the fantastic May Blossom, our residents really enjoyed joining with in with all the music and celebrations as we remembered and paid tribute to our brave service men and service women through song and cheers.

On Tuesday 11th we held a 2-minute silence in honour of Armistice Day as we took some time of shared nostalgia and emotion, personal reflection and memories for those who fought so bravely for our freedom. In the afternoon we welcomed Brooklands Middle School for our very first “Move and Groove” session- this initiative was founded by the Leighton Linslade School Sports Partnership, and aimed at students between the ages of 12-15 years studying Sports Leadership who plan and deliver an activities and exercises programme every week (supported and supervised by their course leaders) The goal is being bringing generations together through fun and fitness, we at Marigold are so honoured to be given the opportunity to host this amazing event- and we look forward to also welcoming Linslade Middle School next week!

Later in the week we welcomed the wonderful local children of one of our local childminders- this weekly Intergenerational Play session is something our residents very much look forward to. Residents are encouraged to lead the activities themselves with the children with the aim being a renewed sense of purpose, improved well-being, and a chance to share their wisdom and experiences. In the afternoon we played Pictionary, this classic fun game brings residents and staff together to try and guess simple drawings and not only encourages fun and teamwork but can also help mental stimulation as well as memory and word recall.

We also welcomed Gracie, a specialist therapy dog and her handler Nicola, a volunteer with Therapy Dogs Nationwide. Our residents absolutely loved meeting her, fussing her and encouraging her training using simple commands and it was fantastic to see how passionate both Gracie and Nicola are about bringing comfort, joy and company to people's lives with their visits. In the afternoon, we had a rather enjoyable afternoon of “Music and Instruments”, our residents loved singing along to timeless classics. Singing benefits are vast in range and include boosting mood and confidence which in turn reduce possible feelings of stress and anxiety.

Finally the emphasis was FUN as we marked “Children in Need” Day 2025. In the morning, we enjoyed a brand-new activity “Card Bingo” and “Higher or Lower” - our residents loved joining in the classic game with a twist which encourages plenty of fun and friendly competition. In the afternoon, we handed over to the wonderful Georgina from Rag Dolly Anas who joined us for an afternoon of music and movement. As well as being a brilliant physical and sensory session it is a wonderful trip down memory lane for our residents which encourages conversation, communication, socialisation and plenty of singing!!
