he ladies and gentlemen at Brockington House received spiritual guidance of the highest order when a well-known Buddhist monk who has met famous people such as Bill Clinton and King Charles paid a visit.

The Venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero spent time chatting with everyone during a recent trip to the UK.

The Sri Lankan monk was in Herefordshire to take part in a retreat at Plantation Villa, Ruxton Farm, Kings Caple.

Plantation Villa deliver regular yoga sessions for the residents at Brockington House and when Activity Lead Tara Chatterley-Russell discovered the monk was in the area, she arranged for him to come into the home.

Tara said: “It was lovely to have Uduwe Dhammaloka in the home. He spoke beautifully and with such positivity and our ladies and gentlemen asked some fantastic questions.

“Having a monk visit was certainly a first for Brockington House but it was a thoroughly engaging experience and a great example of how we continually think outside the box when it comes to activities in the home.”

Speaking through an interpreter (Ishara de Silva who is Chief Executive of Plantation Villa) the monk said he had enjoyed speaking to the residents.

“It was clear the residents are happy at this lovely home and it was nice to be able to spend time with them,” he said.

Uduwe Dhammaloka left home to become a monk at the age of nine is now aged 57. He rose to fame from his weekly sermon programmes on TV and is also an elected Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka.

As a senior monk for almost 50 years and a strong meditation master, he has travelled worldwide, representing Sri Lanka in various international Buddhist conferences and meeting world leaders and other famous dignitaries in the process.
