Brockington House

from R T (Wife of Resident) published on 28 August 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
My 82-year-old husband with Parkinson's dementia went into Brockington house care home for five weeks' respite. At first he seemed fine, but within days he was moved to a locked unit because of "wandering" - something the home already knew about. When I returned early from holiday I found him heavily
sedated, unshaven with food stuck in his beard, and looking neglected. Managers told me they could not manage him and he would have to leave. Later I discovered he had not even been given a prescribed calming medication, which may explain the problems they complained of. After moving to a specialist dementia home he immediately joined in activities, was calm, and showed none of the behaviours reported by Brockington house. This experience left me very disappointed in the standard of care he received.
Reply from Shann Thomas, Home Director at Brockington House

I am very sorry that you disappointed with the care your husband received during the 5 weeks he was in Brockington House. We tried very hard to support your husbands needs but unfortunately, due to his presentation, we were unable to do so. We explained this very carefully to you and also assisted you to arrange his transfer to a specialist unit who were able to meet his needs. At no time was he unshaven nor unkempt and he was only ever given the medication for which he had been prescribed. We liaised with the specialist team at all stages in an attempt to support him but unfortunately without success. The decision for him to leave was not taken lightly and only after every attempt was made to meet his needs. Clearly, in a specialist unit, he is settled which is what was hoped for. I do hope that he will continue to be settled and enjoy his new home

The staff are exceptional in their professional approach. The house keeping staff are outstanding in their diligence and standard of cleanliness.
The food is disappointing and varies in quality. Eg very nice roast pork lunch. Friday fish & chips poor quality fish. Menu lacks imagination, choice & variety

I am glad to have the opportunity to praise the care that Brockington offered my dad. A special mention must be made to all the staff who provided such diligent care and attention. This was particularly so during his final days with them. The humanity and love they showed was beyond compare. Also the
great care they offered me during this incredibly sad time. I have no hesitation in recommending Brockington House.

My Dad spent the last four months of his life being cared for at Bramshott Grange. Everyone from the reception team, cleaners, cooks up to carers, nurses and management were fantastic. Dad was really unwell but he had great relationships with the staff and they were so caring. Most impressive was how
they managed his palliative care. The communication with the family was great and they really understood how to help him in his last days to be comfortable so that we could spend quality time with him until the very end.
Thank you so much.

After an initial settling-in period mum has adjusted exceptionally well to living at Pine Martin Grange. She has really blossomed under the care of the wonderfully kind staff, everyone smiles and knows her name and asks how she is and this has resulted in mum approaching her whole day with a smile and
positive attitude. She enjoys and participates in all the activities and has made some great friends amongst the other residents. My siblings and I had been doing everything possible to keep her happy and healthy in her own home but this was proving to be impossible. The level of care offered by Pine is much more suited to her well being and the social interaction is unparalleled and so beneficial. We can therefore rest easy knowing she is safe, happy and well looked after.

I have had first class care and great support from all the staff here at Glenburnie Lodge. Nothing is too much trouble for them, even small tasks like doing up shoes have been undertaken very willingly as have had a replacement hip operation and my movement is restricted. All in all, a very pleasant
experience.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our experience of Bramshott Grange has been extremely positive from start to finish. We found all the staff, in whatever position, to be extremely friendly, helpful and positive, nothing ever seemed too much trouble for our 93 year old mother. Unfortunately, mum had a mild stroke a few days before her
admission date and so finally arrived a few days late and spent her first few weeks recuperating. She commented on how caring and gentle the staff were with her. She enjoyed her room, watching the birds outside and enjoyed sitting at the end of the corridor just outside her room in the sunshine looking out over the gardens. She was able to start getting involved with the activities, which she enjoyed, but unfortunately her health took turn for the worse. The nursing staff were then extremely helpful when she needed an extra hospital stay and when she returned needing palliative care. Mum was only at Bramshott for 10 weeks, but couldn't have been better looked after anywhere else.

On a day to day basis I feel that my mum receives excellent care. It has been important for her to get to know staff and residents alike and this over a period of time has happened. The day care staff are particularly excellent, as are the activities and trips out. She is less happy about the night
staff, who she feels are often rushed as they go on/off duty.

I recently had an accident, as a result I suffered some fractures and cannot be completely independent. I am most grateful that I could leave hospital to come to Glenburnie Lodge. This has enabled me to regain my health while saf, comfortable, enjoying good food, excellent care and support. I have found
the standard of care has exceeded my expectations. The staff are universally helpful, kind, pleasant and efficient. I am enjoying delicious food and the option to mix with others in the communal spaces or recover in the calm, luxuriously appointed bedroom. As a result both my family and myself have peace of mind.

My Great Aunt who was suffering with dementia, was admitted to Foxhunters just before lockdown during the Covid epidemic in 2020 and was there until she passed away in January 2024. The staff were always lovely and care my Aunt received during her time there was outstanding. She always looked immaculate,
even though less mobile during her last two years. She was a bit of a character and had a great rapport with a few of the staff, even having some good banter, which she loved. On her 90th Birthday the caterers made a fantastic spread and beautiful birthday cake for the family to celebrate with her. The home is kept extremely clean, I would liken it to a high end hotel, with it's lovely 'coffee shop' feel near reception and well kept garden for residents to sit out and enjoy. My Aunt's spacious, en-suite room had a lovely view of the Blorenge mountain, where she could watch hang gliders and people watch. She really enjoyed her time there.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Foxhunters.
