Our very own Daisy, Aged 11, Wins Saxon Weald Local Community Youth Award for “Through the Eyes of a Child” Programme.

Daisy, aged 11, has been making a remarkable impact at The Anchorage care home since she was a toddler. A few years ago, she developed a simple yet powerful idea: “Through the Eyes of a Child.” Her goal was to give children visiting the care home the chance to share honest, unfiltered reflections on what it feels like to walk through its doors, helping staff and residents see the home through a child’s perspective.

What began as a small idea has grown into something truly special. Daisy now encourages children from local schools to visit the care home, fostering meaningful intergenerational friendships with residents. She regularly joins in activities, events, and outings, and has even created feedback forms so children can share their thoughts and ideas.

Daisy’s passion, empathy, and commitment have not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year, she received a Champions of Care Special Recognition Award from Person Centred Software. Today, we are delighted to celebrate her winning the Saxon Weald Local Community Youth Award, recognising her outstanding contribution to the care home and the local community. In the New Year, Daisy will also be joining the PDCCA Volunteer Friends Scheme.

Driven by a genuine desire to make a difference, Daisy is now beginning to share her programme with other care homes across the group, aiming to improve the lives of residents wherever she can. Despite her young age, she approaches her role with remarkable maturity, leading with kindness, compassion, and dedication beyond her years.
