Residents and colleagues at Anchor care homes across County Durham and Cleveland are embracing the festive spirit in style. From crafting Christmas decorations and singing carols, to decorating trees and baking festive treats, each activity is bringing smiles, laughter and a sense of togetherness. These celebrations are a wonderful reminder of the positive impact creativity and community can have on people’s wellbeing during the festive season.

Skelton Court, Elderwood, Millbeck, Wynyard Woods and The Manor House Barnard Castle kicked off their festive celebrations with their spectacular Christmas lights switch-ons. The annual tradition is a much-loved moment in the lead-up to Christmas, bringing joy to residents and the local community. Residents have also been busy creating their own decorations to hang on their care homes’ Christmas trees.

Festive cheer has filled The Manor House Barnard Castle this December, with a lively programme of activities bringing joy to residents. Residents have been enjoying multiple live festive musical performances from well-established North East singer and performer Pete Johnson. Residents also took a group trip to Anchor’s Wetherby Manor care home for celebrations, along with the much-loved annual Christmas cake competition. It was a chance for friends to come together, share laughter and enjoy some delicious seasonal treats. Adding some more festive cheer, The Manor House Barnard Castle even had an early visit from Father Christmas himself in the enchanting Christmas grotto.

Sharon Harrison, Home Manager at The Manor House Barnard Castle, says: “Christmas is always memorable across Anchor care homes. It’s a time when residents, their families, and our colleagues come together to celebrate, reminisce, and create new memories. The visit to Wetherby Manor was such a highlight – bringing everyone together for the annual Christmas cake competition which we always look forward to.”

Jean, resident at The Manor House Barnard Castle, says: “We’re having so much fun at The Manor House Barnard Castle this year, with so many activities to get involved in – there’s been something for everyone! This time of year always feels so magical – and everyone at The Manor House has played their part in making this a memorable and special time for us residents.”
