Withens Nursing Home Supports Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal

This Christmas season, Withens Nursing Home in Southfleet has proudly supported Operation Christmas Child, the shoebox appeal run by international charity Samaritan’s Purse, bringing together residents, team members and families in a shared act of festive giving.

The appeal encourages communities to fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, personal care items and small gifts, which are then distributed to children in need across the world. At Withens, the initiative quickly became a collective effort, with residents, staff and relatives all getting involved in donating items, packing the shoeboxes, wrapping them with care and preparing them for delivery.

The project created a warm and purposeful atmosphere within the home, sparking conversations, memories and a strong sense of togetherness. Residents enjoyed selecting gifts and helping to decorate the shoeboxes, while families were pleased to contribute and support the initiative alongside their loved ones.

Once complete, the thoughtfully prepared shoeboxes were delivered to the home’s local church, St Nicholas Church in Southfleet, where they will now continue their journey through the Operation Christmas Child network to reach children who may otherwise receive little or nothing at Christmas.

Gurpreet, General Manager at Withens Nursing Home, said: “It has been wonderful to see residents, team members and families all coming together for such a meaningful cause. From donating and packing to wrapping and delivering the shoeboxes to St Nicholas Church, everyone played a part. Small acts of kindness can have a huge impact, and this appeal has really captured the true spirit of Christmas.”
