Residents at Anchor’s St Mary's care home in Holbrook have been celebrating the kindness of a local pupil.

Emily, a student at Holbrook Academy, has developed a wonderful bond with residents at the care home. Together with her sister, and mum Josie, Emily has been bringing carefully chosen gifts to residents who do not have close family nearby. Emily has also been visiting the home outside of school hours, making regular trips to spend time with residents.

The gifts ranged from cosy blankets to boxes of chocolates, each one selected to match individual interests and personalities. Jo, who absolutely adores cats, received a snow globe featuring a feline friend, whilst Marie, the home's enthusiastic note-writer, was given a notepad and pen to continue her passion. Ron, who can never resist a good chocolate, was delighted with his box of treats, and Hazel received a cosy blanket to keep her warm.

St Mary's care home is committed to building meaningful connections between residents and the wider Holbrook community. Stories like Emily's demonstrate the positive impact that local visits can have on the wellbeing of residents. The home regularly welcomes visitors and encourages families and community members to get involved in the lives of those who call St Mary's their home. Marie J, 83, resident at St Mary’s care home, said: “Emily's visits mean the world to us. She takes the time to really get to know each of us, and it's clear she genuinely cares. It's wonderful to see someone so young showing such kindness and consideration.”

Anna Dabrowska, Home Manager at St Mary’s care home, said: “Emily and her family have made such a positive impact here at St Mary's. The care and thought that's gone into selecting each gift is particularly special - she has spent hours chatting with residents, learning about their hobbies, their memories, and what brings them happiness. It’s been wonderful to see the intergenerational connections formed here.”
