Residents at HC-One’s Aspen Court Care Home in Poplar were full of smiles recently as they welcomed back their much-loved weekly baby group, Songs and Smiles, for the first time since Christmas.
The intergenerational session brought together nine residents, five babies and four parents for a joyful morning of music, movement and conversation. The home’s wellbeing team transformed the activities room with colourful mats and lively music to create a welcoming and stimulating environment for everyone involved.
The session began with introductions, with residents receiving name stickers before everyone joined in singing a hello song and saying each other’s names. This helped to break the ice and ensured residents, babies and parents felt comfortable and included from the start.
Singing continued throughout the session, with props adding to the fun. Colourful scarves were used during the popular rainbow song, while bubbles from a machine filled the room, delighting residents as the children walked around sharing the bubbles with them. The playful interaction prompted plenty of smiles and laughter.
To finish the session, residents and families enjoyed juice and biscuits together, giving them time to sit, chat and build meaningful connections.
Sharon Warren, Senior Wellbeing Coordinator at Aspen Court, said:
“It was wonderful to see the baby group back with us after the Christmas break. The room was full of laughter, smiles and energy, and it was clear how much our residents enjoyed spending time with the children and their families.”
Michaela Harrison, Wellbeing Coordinator, added:
“Intergenerational activities like this are so important for wellbeing. Seeing the joy on our residents’ faces reminds us just how powerful these shared experiences can be.”
