LOCAL CARE HOME RESIDENTS ATTEND A DANCE EDIT WITH EXERCISE COACH

Residents Roz and Mary from Bedewell Grange Care Home in Hebburn were delighted to attend The Dance City Theatre in Newcastle for their Dance Edit event this January.

The exciting evening stemmed from a fabulous project with Equal Arts and Bedewell Grange to promote exercise and wellbeing for resident at the home. Following receipt of a much-appreciated grant, Roz and Mary have been enjoying regular sessions, alongside fellow residents, with Aaron Markwell who has been attending the home every week to run Tia Chi and Ballet classes. Residents have loved these sessions and look forward to Aaron visiting every week, the classes are always full of energy and enthusiasm with the added benefit of improving fitness and dexterity.

When Aaron told the ladies he was talking part in the Dance Edit show at Dance City in Newcastle, they were eager to come and watch his work and were over the moon when he arranged front row seats to the event. They headed up to Newcastle with activities co-ordinator Donna Ward and Admin Miranda Robertson on a wet and windy evening, but even the weather couldn’t dampen the excitement. The show incorporated five dance edits of which Aarron headlined one and took part in another. The ladies were very proud of his piece and got to have their photo taken with him after the show. Roz told staff: “It was such a special evening and it was lovely to see Aaron showcasing his work’.

Denise Buckley, Acting General Manager at the home, said: ‘It was so nice to see how happy Roz and Mary were to attend a special evening and support Aaron. They have really enjoyed the sessions at the home each week, so when they heard about the event, they were excited for an evening out on the town and to support his work at Dance City. Projects like this bring so much enjoyment to our residents, it helps them to remain active as well as access wonderful events like these in the community.’
