Staff and residents at The Cedars in Bourne welcomed in the Year of the Horse with a day of celebrations and activities.
Inspired by Chinese history, culture and cuisine, fortune cookies were exchanged and the home was decorated with dancing dragons, good luck charms and hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. Barchester Chef, Julie Gelsthorpe, designed an oriental feast for lunch and supper and residents expressed how wonderful it was to try something different.
Rebecca Aldred, Senior General Manager of The Cedars Care Home in Bourne, said: “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks so vibrant, decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes. Staff, residents and family loved trying to master the “Chopstick Challenge – what a giggle!”
Barbara Coleman, a resident at The Cedars said: “I loved decorating the fans and writing my name in the Chinese alphabet. Whilst Anne, said, “We found out that the Horse is the seventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac and is associated with being free-spirited, hard-working, warm-hearted, independent and adventurous. I find it fascinating to learn all about different traditions and countries.”
