Residents and guests at The Cedars care home in Bourne enjoyed an afternoon of pure delight, with a live musical performance that took place at the home to celebrate Dame Vera Lynns birthday, the Forces Sweetheart would have been 109 years old. Local singer Nikki Downes performed a selection of classics from the 1940’s including of course, “Well meet again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover”.

Lisa Ferris, part of the activities team at the Cedars said, “Everybody was so captivated today, joining in, singing and dancing. Peter Baker, one of our newest residents, surprised us all, with his most beautiful singing voice. As it filled the room, Nikki said she is definitely taking him on tour with her next week.” One resident remarked, “I’ve never seen the room so full, the atmosphere in here today positively tingled.” The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the performance.

Senior General Manager, Rebecca Aldred said, “Our residents and their guests had a wonderful time! It was really, quite a special afternoon; culminating with our residents singing back to our performer, “For shes a jolly good fellow”, completely off their own backs, it was very emotive. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at The Cedars as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this one will stay with me for awhile!”

Another resident said “Well meet again was more than music, it was an anthem of comfort and hope!”
