Festival of Colour Brings Springtime Magic to The Old Rectory Care Home

The Old Rectory Care Home welcomed the arrival of spring by celebrating Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colour, with a joyful afternoon of art, laughter and vibrant community spirit.

To mark the occasion, the home created a special photo “selfie frame” decorated with handmade flowers, crafted in-house to set the scene for the celebrations. With everything prepared, residents and staff took part in a fun, inclusive skin-painting activity, gently covering one another in bright, wonderful colours to reflect Holi’s message of renewal, togetherness and new beginnings.

The celebrations were made even sweeter with a selection of Indian-inspired snacks and homemade sweets, enjoyed together as everyone shared stories, admired the colourful results, and captured memorable photos using the home-made selfie floral frame.

Cheryl Water, Manager at The Old Rectory Care Home said: “Celebrating Holi gave us a beautiful way to welcome spring, on what was a sunny day, bringing everyone together. The colours, the creativity, and the shared laughter created such a warm atmosphere. It was a reminder that meaningful moments don’t have to be complicated they just need people, connection, and a bit of joy.”

The Old Rectory Care Home regularly marks cultural festivals and seasonal events as part of its commitment to enriching daily life, supporting wellbeing and creating opportunities for residents to enjoy shared experiences that feel uplifting and inclusive.
