Residents, staff, and members of the local community at Low Furlong care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, came together throughout March to take part in the inspiring “March in March” charity challenge, supporting veterans’ mental health.
The initiative encouraged participants to collectively walk 10 miles over the course of the month in aid of Combat Stress, a charity dedicated to supporting former service personnel facing mental health challenges.
Residents, including veterans living at Low Furlong, were joined by staff, relatives, and members of the local community, all walking together come rain or shine. The daily walks offered not only an opportunity for physical activity, but also time for meaningful conversations, fresh air, and shared experiences.
One resident, Chris, shared his thoughts on the initiative: "As a veteran myself, I was pleased to see a fantastic turnout from our community and residents of Low Furlong. It is important that we all stick together to help those with mental health problems."
The atmosphere throughout the month was warm, uplifting, and filled with encouragement. Participants supported one another every step of the way, with laughter, storytelling, and a strong sense of togetherness making each walk special.
Reaching the collective 10-mile goal was a proud and memorable achievement for everyone involved, demonstrating the power of community and shared purpose.
This initiative not only raised awareness for veterans’ mental health but also promoted wellbeing among residents, helping them stay active and feel part of something meaningful. By bringing together residents, families, and the wider community, Low Furlong continues to strengthen relationships and create opportunities for connection and support.
