Residents at The Mill House Enjoy Spring Visit to The Walled Garden

Residents and team members from The Mill House Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed a peaceful and inspiring minibus adventure to The Walled Garden in Little Plumstead, taking in the beauty of nature just ahead of Earth Day.

On Tuesday 21st April, Daisy, Lifestyle Coordinator at The Mill House, alongside Beth, the home’s bus driver, and four residents, visited the stunning gardens to explore the seasonal flowers and tranquil surroundings. Sheltered by ancient walls, the sun-filled garden created a calm and magical atmosphere, offering the perfect setting for reflection, conversation, and connection with nature.

Residents spent time admiring the vibrant spring blooms, reminiscing about their own gardens and sharing memories of flowers they had grown over the years. After exploring the grounds, the group stopped at the café where they enjoyed coffee and cake, all while overlooking the beautiful gardens.

The visit was especially meaningful as it took place the day before Earth Day and tied in perfectly with April’s dignity theme of “Spring Watch.” It also provided inspiration for The Mill House Gardening Club while supporting The Walled Garden, which is run and maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers.

Residents shared their delight throughout the visit. “It’s just beautiful, look at that giant leaf, just marvellous,” said resident Susie.

“Nothing like it, it’s lovely isn’t it,” added Barbara.

Daphne said, “I feel very lucky to get to come out and about every week, and to see these beautiful gardens on a blue sunny day like today.”

The atmosphere throughout the day was described as peaceful, magical, creative, and calm, with everyone feeling the positive effects of being surrounded by nature. While the entire outing was a highlight, the greatest joy for the team was seeing how relaxed, happy, and engaged residents were while discovering somewhere new.

The Mill House continues to create meaningful experiences for residents that promote wellbeing, independence, and community connection.
