The Mill House Nursing Home is originally an old Victorian house adapted to provide accommodation for 46 service users, including its new purpose built wing of 13 beds, on two floors. Both floors are used to accommodate both males and females in a residential or nursing setting for service users over 65 years of age, but depending on needs under 65 year old will be considered for placements.
It has easy access to local amenities within the beautiful country side surroundings. There is a good bus link to the area. Horstead is adjacent to the next village of Coltishall and 7 miles from the city of Norwich.
All the bedrooms have en suite facilities comprising of a toilet and washbasin. Many also have showers or baths. Bathrooms are situated at appropriate places in the house where the staff assist bathing care.
They help everyone personalise their rooms to make them as homely and familiar as possible.

• Dental, Optical & Chiropody services if you do not qualify for exemption

My wife went into Mill House in February this year after she got to much for me to care for at home, she has mixed dementia. She was very difficult to care for, she never wanted to go into care and they tried everything including one to one care until they got her to settle into living at Mill House. Mill House is a home from home and I can visit her and leave her knowing she is in safe hands. The staff are all friendly and caring and you feel you are part of a big family. They have plenty of activities and take her out in her wheelchair to visit the mill and river opposite. All I can say is thank you to everyone involved in her care.

The Mill House has a homely and friendly atmosphere. The staff seem to go out of their way to support the residents to be active and not 'stuck' in their rooms or chairs staring at a wall. There is a great range of activities my mum gets involved in. The staff are friendly and my mum seems to be enjoying being here overall I feel content knowing my mum is safe and well looked after when I am so far away and can't visit as often as I would like.

This was first Christmas mum spent not in her own home so would have been a difficult time for her. The staff in the home have been outstanding in helping mum settle in, and they laid on a number of activities for the residents and their families to enjoy the festive period. Dad moved into Mill House in November 2025 having been in hospital and then respite care at a different home.
Dad settled in almost immediately which we were so relieved about as he always said he would never go into a home. He has a lovely big room and was able to take his own tv and other personal effects and also has his bird table and feeders outside his window, just like at home and with his Alzheimers he does think he is at home a lot of the time.
All the carers we have come into contact with are lovely and really make you and dad feel welcome and you can tell they are committed to their jobs.
We are hopeful that dad will start joining in the regular trips soon as he loves going out for a cuppa! Also looking forward to the spring and getting him out in the lovely grounds. But for now he seems happy and content with how things are.
We feel very lucky the room became available at the right time and now enjoy just going to spend quality time with him.

Went to visit my nan today for the first time. The staff were very welcoming and friendly were brilliant with my nan and I can see she's being well cared for which was very reassuring. Also the place is very beautiful.

My mum has recently been placed at Mill House and I can honestly say I’m very impressed. I saw her the other day in a chair for the first time in nearly 2 years so glad with the progress so far. She is so much happier and the house is beautiful. She has gone from living alone and not speaking to anyone to having people around her to talk to. Have no complaints at all and would highly recommend it. Also great that it is very dog-friendly.

Mum has been living at Mill House since October 2023. She never wanted to go into a care home but Mill House has changed all that. She settled in really quickly and seems very happy. Me and my brother know that she is safe and very well cared for. She is being encouraged to join in all the lovely activities that are regularly organised from singing in the garden to meeting furry friends. She loves the staff and enjoys the meals. The staff are incredibly friendly and really attentive. Mill House is a beautiful place inside and outside, and has a lovely atmosphere. It’s right near the river too so Mum can enjoy the peaceful beauty and get close to nature. Thank you to the manager and her wonderful team.
