Unfortunately, granddad was only at the Mill House Nursing Home for 16 days.
The nurses were fantastic and we could not fault the care grandad received. A special shout out to one of the night nurses, who gave grandad dignity, care and love and her dog. Thank you to everyone who made it a caring,
loving environment for grandad until the end.

My father spent two years at Mill House before getting his angel wings in October 2017. He was a proud and stubborn man, however, carers responded to him in a kind, empathetic and caring manner. He soon settled in and always said he was really happy in Mill House. The care he received was excellent
and communication was good. My dad was treated with dignity and a positive understanding of his needs. The manager and all the carers were amazing and near to the end of his days were very supportive. The home was always clean, as was my father who always took a pride in his appearance, carers aware of this and he always presented as clean and well groomed. From manager, deputy manager, kitchen staff, laundry assistants, nurses, carers and maintenance staff a massive thank you for looking after my father and making his time at Mill House a happy time where he felt at home and part of a wonderful family.

The staff at the Mill House Nursing Home in Horstead, Norfolk, were most caring and attentive to my father in his last weeks and days.
They were always on hand to discuss his progress, by phone and during my visits.
They also proactively keep me informed whenever there were any changes in my father's
condition and/ or his medication. My deep gratitude to the staff at the Mill House.

We found Mill House very welcoming. We were told we could visit any time of the day or night. We were allowed into their kitchen to make tea for mum or ourselves. They certainly had nothing to hide. The staff were very friendly and had my mother's care top of their list. She was always clean and cared
for. I have nothing but praise. Sadly my mother passed away on the 26th of April but I feel she was so well cared for in her last two months.

My mother was admitted to hospital on 6th December 2016 with a variety of health problems, not least Alzheimers and Vascular Dementia. When it came time for her to leave hospital she couldn't go back home. We were so lucky that Mill House had a room which they held while she got through Noro Virus
just before she left hospital. My husband and I were very impressed when we visited the home. Also, it is just so close to where mum grew up. She used to row and fish in the mill pond too. The accommodation is lovely and the staff are very kind. Mum wasn't here very long - only 3 weeks sadly - but being here eased her passing.

The response I had from the manager on day one was excellent, very quick and efficient. The deputy was also very good as was the rest of the staff. Most impressed with the mardle room. They achieved everything that was required in the planned two weeks. I will certainly recommend it to anyone interested.

Father appears well cared for, well fed and usually happy. When upset, staff manage to cajole him out of mood. I live in Australia and am contacted and kept well informed about any issues that arise. The administrator is main point of contact.

The care my Dad receives in Mill House is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff and he is happy in his surroundings. This brings a huge peace of mind to me and my family. The manager is so helpful and knowledgeable and always willing to help sort the many problems we have
come across. I would recommend Mill House to anybody who has a loved one who needs excellent nursing care.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for The Mill House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for The Mill House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 140 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Mill House Nursing Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
