I recently visited my mother inside The Mill House Nursing Home. The whole process was handled very professionally, and my mother was able to see me "in person" for the first time in many months. I had previously visited her in the pod. The home has done an excellent job in enabling residents to keep
in touch with their families.

Visiting indoors was allowed for the first time in 12-months. I was desperate to see her, but dreading if she didn't know me or want me. After the safety introduction and wearing the correct PPE, I was taken to see my wife - the carer who had helped her went into the room, and I followed; her face lit
up the whole room and she said "my grumpy's here" and held her hand out so we could touch for the first time in 12-months. She looked really good, alert, clean, and with it. During the lockdown, the staff have been awesome. My wife has put weight on, becoming more social, and her condition has improved. Her room was clean, and everything was exactly where it was before visiting was stopped. I knew the housekeeper would not let her standards drop. I have said it before, but Mill House has no weak links, everyone is brilliant and doing a superb job. They are well led, also making sure every resident is safe. I have my wife back, no money can buy that!

Deeply impressed. Great facilities and staff that truly care.
During the coronavirus crisis, they took in my father and cared for him like family. I can't recommend the place enough, at the time of writing they have managed to avoid any cases of COVID here by being sensible and diligent.
The staff
have gone the extra mile and made my dad's last few months as enjoyable as they could be.
Thank you.

My mum became a resident of Mill House in December 2019 having been diagnosed with terminal cancer 12 months previously.
Despite not being in her own home with dad, mum was happy at Mill House; primarily because she understood the level of care needed could no longer be provided at home.
For the first
4 months, we made the best out of the situation and Mill House were always helpful, for example, I'd come and pick mum up on Tuesdays to take her down into the City Centre to see her friends and they always had mum ready and waiting with everything she needed.
When the Coronavirus lockdown occurred, things became very difficult, and Mill House did their utmost to make sure we could see mum through her window, and on the rare occasion when the weather and mum were OK, in the garden.
Having a loved one in a nursing home is tough and I can't imagine there are too many happy stories, however, my mum was mostly happy and felt safe and that meant a lot to us.

I have been here for 5 years and am very happy. My boys and girls treat me with respect and dignity and as a human. We laugh together but sadly sometimes we cry together. I have complete faith and trust in all of them. They have kept me safe during the pandemic, they worked long hours just to ensure
all residents were safe. The management saw I was missing my husband and did everything they could so I could safely see him. We had drive-through visits, garden visits and behind glass visits but most of all we had safe visits. I have started to put weight on at last. I don't need to name individuals, they are all worth a mention - they are all premier league to me.

Generally, I have always found the premises to be satisfactory when visiting. Room furnishings, particularly carpets, should be deep cleaned and/or replaced more frequently. Staff are always helpful and friendly and treat my mother with compassion and respect, which is most important to me. I would
like to see additional effort put into activities that actively encourage residents to interact more. Communication and feedback process to relatives could be improved in relation to health and treatments etc. But overall my mother appears very happy and content at The Mill House.

My mum has been at Mill House for more than three years. The nurses and carers, admin, kitchen, housekeeping and maintenance staff all contribute to the comfortable, friendly atmosphere, not just for residents but for families too. During the present Covid 19 crisis, the home has managed, so far, to
avoid any positive cases due to early lockdown and good protective measures and I have been able to keep in touch by telephone or video link.
With the resources they have, and we all know all care homes need more, they do a great job.

My mother has been at the care home for a while now and I have always been pleased with the care that is provided. My Mum is always happy and the carers are always welcoming when I visit my mother. They always help with anything I have to ask or need clarification on. Well done to all involved and thank
you for all your help and keep safe.

My father has been a resident at Mill House for the last nine months. He settled quickly and received a lovely welcome when he arrived. The staff are very caring, professional and kind and I can not praise them highly enough. The home itself had a welcoming homely feel and has a lovely conservatory
for residents to relax in and two very pleasant dining rooms together with a lounge for residents to watch TV. The bedrooms are very nice and have en suite facilities. Also, there is a delightful garden for residents' use. The food is cooked on-site and always looks appetising and nutritious. Visitors are always made welcome and there are no restrictions on visiting (Pre Corona Virus). I have every confidence that my father is well cared for and safe.
I would recommend Mill House Nursing Home to anyone looking for residential care for their relative.

Like all caring offspring, we were very concerned at the prospect of mum going into a care home. We had heard so many stories about them. However once mum was established and we were able to visit her, we were very pleasantly surprised. For us, the attitude of the staff was more important than the decor.
Most important of all was mum's reaction to the staff when they came into her room, she was clearly pleased and comfortable with them being there.

My friend arrived on 8th February from a private nursing home. By 12th February I was amazed at the difference in him. He was bright, energetic and looked better than he has in a long time.
His glucose levels are much better as previously they were up in the 20's but now appear to have settled. All
due to his diet!

My husband had 2 weeks respite care at Mill House and had a good 2 weeks. He reported to me the staff very caring, spending time helping him communicate. The Manager helped me also. She is very kind. All his needs were met equally well to what happens at home. Cannot praise this well run caring home

The manager and administration secretary pulled out all the stops to admit my brother on the day he was discharged from hospital for some much-needed convalescence. Already he is benefitting from the care of the nursing and auxiliary staff who are friendly, helpful and flexible in looking after him.
The manager has spent quite a lot of time talking to me about ways in which they could assist my brother to look after himself better when he returns home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for The Mill House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for The Mill House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 140 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Mill House Nursing Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
