Recipient: St Dominics Residential Home
Date: Monday 30 Sep 2019
St Dominics has always provided a high standard of end of life care. When the Gold Standard Framework (GSF) integrated into Care Homes in 2012 we were one of the first Care Homes in Essex to use this structured approach.
The GSF aims to build on the good work already present in the home, to develop the very best quality of care for residents in the last years of life – aiming for a “gold standard of care”. The GSF helps homes provide the right care, at the right time and in the right place.
To gain accreditation, St Dominics had to meet strict criteria across twenty areas, ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect. Our staff were able to take advantage of new and improved training for end of life care and managing pain provided by Farleigh Hospice staff which enabled us to deliver the gold standard of care for all our residents in the last years of their life.
This is an ongoing process and the home is audited for re-accreditation. Evidence of procedures followed, training applied and care provided resulting in good outcomes is recorded in readiness. Our last re-accreditation was finalised in 2019 and due to the hard work and dedication of the care staff and the Home Manager, St Dominics was awarded Platinum status covering the period September 2019 to April 2023.
