I found this place quite by chance after my mum had a stroke and required full time care. Mum lived in Kent at the time & trying to arrange a transfer and funding between counties was complicated to say the least. As soon as I walked into the Forbury I knew I had found something special. I'd visited several local care homes but this was different. A warm, clean, friendly, old fashioned place that I knew mum would love. The owner, manager and every member of staff have been nothing short of wonderful. Their care and support to my mum and our family has been amazing. Mum is thriving here and we are so happy and lucky to have found them.
I'm amazed that The Forbury hasn't had loads of reviews letting people know how good it is! My mum-in-law has been living in The Forbury for a couple of years. I've been impressed by the care staff, kitchen staff, office staff, activities leader. They have all been quietly, confidently, respectfully looking after our mum. She has dementia, however, they have her painting, crafting, singing, dancing. She is regularly entertained and occupied by the activities coordinator and the team, and with visits from singers, companion animals, groups of children, etc. Its position in the centre of town means that we can take our mum to the shops, and other local places with ease. And we often see social media posts showing residents lunching out as well as all the other activities. I only wish all care homes would offer this level of involvement for residents. And at a reasonable cost. We've visited and used a number of care homes in Herefordshire, The Forbury is proving to be the best care home in the area.
My mum went to The Forbury, initially for respite care in December. She was quite frail and unwell generally with her diabetes not being managed well at home and with an ulcerated leg. Mum's stay has resulted in a totally healed leg, weight loss through a much more balanced diet and a big improvement in her general physical health - she has not looked so well in many years. The staff and management at The Forbury have provided exceptional care - both physical and with mental health support and have taken a special interest in her well-being. They have included her in many activities, encouraged her to 'help' them with tasks around the home so that she feels useful and has a purpose and have helped her to make friendships. They have sent me regular photos and video updates and are always willing to respond to emails and phone calls about updates on how she is feeling. I cannot thank them enough for taking such good care of my mum, which is now ongoing. It is very reassuring.
