View Full Details of The Check HouseMy husband and I have been delighted with the excellent care his mum receives at Check House. She is always treated with the utmost respect and affection by the very caring staff who are efficient and responsive to her needs at all times. Nothing is too much trouble and Check House very much feels like a home for Mum. We love all the activities and celebrations that Mum experiences there and the wonderful effort that everyone puts in to make each day special in some way.
Making the decision to move to 24hr nursing care for a loved one is an extremely difficult time and having visited a few homes as soon as I walked into Check House I just felt it was right. The staff were all so friendly and helpful as well as supportive through the move and then when my Mother went in she was cared for from the first moment. Throughout her time with Check House she was made to feel special and loved and even when she resisted they never gave up. The support they offered me and the family through this difficult time was so appreciated. I only wish we had moved Mum there earlier so she could have enjoyed her time there more. What was beyond our expectations was the end of life care given, such respect, dignity and love was given and I couldn't have asked for a better care at that time. If you're thinking about Check House for your loved one, don't wait any longer. It's a diamond by the sea.
My husband has Lew Body Dementia and I have been turned away from other homes I thought would be suitable for him. I'm so glad he is in a safe and caring home - I know this is a lovely home for him and his needs. I am so impressed with the lovely care he is getting I visit him every day and feel comfortable with the staff and nothing feels like too much trouble so glad he is in The Check House.
My father greeted us with a big smile 'this place is magical', 'I'm so happy here'. The staff were all amazing, he was so well cared for both clinically and socially. Dad's stay at The Check House was perfect, his care was outstanding, the staff so welcoming and professional, the environment perfect.
I go to visit once a month at The Check House. All the staff and carers are really friendly and do all they can for the residents. My sister loves sitting out on the terrace and looking at the lovely views. She is so happy at The Check House and well looked after.
Our family is very grateful to the management team and all the staff at The Check House, who treated my mother with warmth, respect, and genuine compassion. They showed great sensitivity and professionalism in meeting her changing needs throughout her nearly four years there, especially in her final days. They also offered exceptional kindness and support to my father, who visited every day, making him feel welcome and included. I don't think we could have found a better home for my mother. I would not hesitate to recommend the Check House to other families.
My husband came to The Checkhouse in February and our whole experience has been excellent. From his warm welcome on arrival to his final hours the care and support were exemplorary. The nursing care was efficient, kind and caring to both him and myself. Carers were thoughtful and gentle when he was at her most vulnerable. I was kept informed of all his progress at all times and was able to express my own and his wishes. I can't thank everyone enough for their kindness during our final days at The Check House.
My wife died yesterday in The Check House where she had been for nearly four years. She was very hard of hearing using hearing aids, her sight was very poor due to macular degeneration and she could not speak due to a stroke. She was difficult to deal with and sometimes violent. All staff and management were kind, patient and I can't praise them highly enough.
When my husband came to the Check House for a respite break my husband and I could not have been treated with more kindness and support during his stay. Friendliness and care from all staff was exceptional, the kitchen team were amazing providing healthy and delicious meals accommodating dietary needs (I was warmly welcomed to eat meals with my husband and we were able to eat in privacy in their beautiful garden and terrace), and the management kindly set up my husband's room to make him as comfortable as possible and helping us out at all times. The setting on the East Devon Coast with views out to the sea is stunning and the grounds beautifully cared for. Thank you to all at the Check House for making my husband's stay such a comfortable and successful one and your welcome and care for us both.
My husband was a resident in The Check House for 5 years, following a severe stroke which left him completely bed bound. During this time, he received exemplary care from all the care staff, but particularly from the nursing staff - no bed sores in 5 years. Although he could only manage pureed food, it was always beautifully presented. We could not have found a better nursing home for him, and we will always be extremely grateful for his wonderful care and to know that he was in such safe hands.
Our mum has been here over a year now and she has repeatedly told us she feels safe and well cared for. The nursing team and management keep us regularly updated with any concerns or health concerns immediately, the communication is amazing, the care is second to none and we honestly can't fault anything. We feel all her needs are met. Our mum struggles with food at times but they will give her anything she wants to eat.
My mum has been a resident for one year. During that year the staff have treated my mum with the upmost respect and caring and with empathy. Showing patience, and bonding a trusy with my mum. The nurses always communicate exceptionally well and always find time to talk to us. Nothing is ever too much from finding us a chair to sit on to the chef preparing our mum her favourite meal. The staff are like an extended family member to the residents like one big family. The home is always spotless and everyone gets a warm welcome.
My brother has been in The Check House for almost 3 years. The staff are always very welcoming when I visit and the care they give to the residents is exceptional. I would not wish my brother to be in any other care home. The staff are so kind and caring for the residents. It almost feels like your own home.
Excellent care from all the staff.
Everything fine. Would be glad if there was a designated place for lost property. A shame staff are now wearing uniforms- there was much less of an institutional feel when they wore clothes of their own choice.
My husband has been in check house for two and half years now and I have found the care to be exceptional at all levels.
My loved one has lived at Check House for over 3 years and the care he receives there is a genuine and exemplary. The facilities are excellent and all the staff are wonderful, friendly and welcoming to residents and visitors. I know my loved one is very well looked after all his needs met to a consistently high standard. I would highly recommend Check House.
My father lived at The Check House for 4.5 years until his death last week. I only have praise for the staff and nursing team who cared for him so compassionately throughout his time there and especially during the period at the end of his life. Dad was treated with the utmost respect and dignity at all times. When he passed the love and respect of the staff was clear - not only in their fondness for Dad but also in the way they cared for my mother and the rest of our family. Practically the home is very well run and all the residents are settled and comfortable. There is plenty of stimulation, visiting musicians and a busy activity team. Personal events are celebrated in style - my parents were made a huge fuss of on their 60th wedding anniversary. Visitors are welcomed at any time. We are so grateful to The Check House and would not hesitate to recommend them. It was a huge comfort to us knowing that Dad was happy and so well cared for. Many thanks.
My mum has now been living at Check House for 8 months, so I felt now would be a good time to write a review. From the first point of contact, the manager and the admin team were brilliant and made me feel at ease. Check House is a homely care home. The staff are just awesome and manage the residents in a caring and respectful way. The communication from Check House is very good. I receive regular updates about my mum. The cleaning, laundry, kitchen and maintenance teams all do their jobs brilliantly and work hard. There is a full programme of activities at Check House, which the residents can take part if they wish to do so. They have many visiting acts too. The mini-bus is regularly used for residents' outings. The food here is very good, and my mum does enjoy her meals. I have eaten dinner here with her on a couple of occasions too. The staff here are what really makes this care home outstanding, led by a brilliant management team, and they all do an amazing job.
My father has Dementia and was diagnosed during Covid. I supported Dad with independent living for as long as I could, but I wish I had found them earlier. The Check House is a wonderful environment for my father and one where I find myself humbled by the level of support and care they provide for him. Activities are always on offer, so he has an opportunity for quiet times or mixed community times. As the sole carer for Dad, I can't recomend them highly enough. The whole team led by the manager are brilliant at what they do. There is no better place for Dad locally.
