I go to visit once a month at The Check House. All the staff and carers are really friendly and do all they can for the residents. My sister loves sitting out on the terrace and looking at the lovely views. She is so happy at The Check House and well looked after.

Our family is very grateful to the management team and all the staff at The Check House, who treated my mother with warmth, respect, and genuine compassion. They showed great sensitivity and professionalism in meeting her changing needs throughout her nearly four years there, especially in her final
days. They also offered exceptional kindness and support to my father, who visited every day, making him feel welcome and included. I don't think we could have found a better home for my mother. I would not hesitate to recommend the Check House to other families.

My husband came to The Checkhouse in February and our whole experience has been excellent. From his warm welcome on arrival to his final hours the care and support were exemplorary. The nursing care was efficient, kind and caring to both him and myself. Carers were thoughtful and gentle when he was
at her most vulnerable. I was kept informed of all his progress at all times and was able to express my own and his wishes. I can't thank everyone enough for their kindness during our final days at The Check House.

My wife died yesterday in The Check House where she had been for nearly four years. She was very hard of hearing using hearing aids, her sight was very poor due to macular degeneration and she could not speak due to a stroke. She was difficult to deal with and sometimes violent. All staff and management
were kind, patient and I can't praise them highly enough.

When my husband came to the Check House for a respite break my husband and I could not have been treated with more kindness and support during his stay. Friendliness and care from all staff was exceptional, the kitchen team were amazing providing healthy and delicious meals accommodating dietary needs
(I was warmly welcomed to eat meals with my husband and we were able to eat in privacy in their beautiful garden and terrace), and the management kindly set up my husband's room to make him as comfortable as possible and helping us out at all times. The setting on the East Devon Coast with views out to the sea is stunning and the grounds beautifully cared for. Thank you to all at the Check House for making my husband's stay such a comfortable and successful one and your welcome and care for us both.

My husband was a resident in The Check House for 5 years, following a severe stroke which left him completely bed bound. During this time, he received exemplary care from all the care staff, but particularly from the nursing staff - no bed sores in 5 years. Although he could only manage pureed food,
it was always beautifully presented. We could not have found a better nursing home for him, and we will always be extremely grateful for his wonderful care and to know that he was in such safe hands.

Our mum has been here over a year now and she has repeatedly told us she feels safe and well cared for. The nursing team and management keep us regularly updated with any concerns or health concerns immediately, the communication is amazing, the care is second to none and we honestly can't fault anything.
We feel all her needs are met. Our mum struggles with food at times but they will give her anything she wants to eat.

My mum has been a resident for one year. During that year the staff have treated my mum with the upmost respect and caring and with empathy. Showing patience, and bonding a trusy with my mum. The nurses always communicate exceptionally well and always find time to talk to us. Nothing is ever too much
from finding us a chair to sit on to the chef preparing our mum her favourite meal. The staff are like an extended family member to the residents like one big family. The home is always spotless and everyone gets a warm welcome.

Everything fine. Would be glad if there was a designated place for lost property. A shame staff are now wearing uniforms- there was much less of an institutional feel when they wore clothes of their own choice.

My father lived at The Check House for 4.5 years until his death last week. I only have praise for the staff and nursing team who cared for him so compassionately throughout his time there and especially during the period at the end of his life. Dad was treated with the utmost respect and dignity at
all times. When he passed the love and respect of the staff was clear - not only in their fondness for Dad but also in the way they cared for my mother and the rest of our family. Practically the home is very well run and all the residents are settled and comfortable. There is plenty of stimulation, visiting musicians and a busy activity team. Personal events are celebrated in style - my parents were made a huge fuss of on their 60th wedding anniversary. Visitors are welcomed at any time.
We are so grateful to The Check House and would not hesitate to recommend them. It was a huge comfort to us knowing that Dad was happy and so well cared for. Many thanks.

My mum has now been living at Check House for 8 months, so I felt now would be a good time to write a review.
From the first point of contact, the manager and the admin team were brilliant and made me feel at ease.
Check House is a homely care home. The staff are just awesome and manage the residents
in a caring and respectful way.
The communication from Check House is very good. I receive regular updates about my mum. The cleaning, laundry, kitchen and maintenance teams all do their jobs brilliantly and work hard.
There is a full programme of activities at Check House, which the residents can take part if they wish to do so. They have many visiting acts too. The mini-bus is regularly used for residents' outings.
The food here is very good, and my mum does enjoy her meals. I have eaten dinner here with her on a couple of occasions too.
The staff here are what really makes this care home outstanding, led by a brilliant management team, and they all do an amazing job.

My father has Dementia and was diagnosed during Covid. I supported Dad with independent living for as long as I could, but I wish I had found them earlier. The Check House is a wonderful environment for my father and one where I find myself humbled by the level of support and care they provide for him.
Activities are always on offer, so he has an opportunity for quiet times or mixed community times.
As the sole carer for Dad, I can't recomend them highly enough. The whole team led by the manager are brilliant at what they do. There is no better place for Dad locally.

I cannot praise or recommend The Check House highly enough! My mother was a resident for a year until she passed away and both the staff and level of care were second to none. I live in the USA and nothing was too much trouble to keep me in contact with Mum, by either phone or video call and updated

Check House has cared for my parents since 2019. The staff are extremely caring and the residents are lucky to have engaging activities, gorgeous food and trips out. I have always been kept fully informed of their progress. After losing my dad, my mum was comforted and helped to understand what had
happened.
They felt they were on holiday whilst there!
Now after my mym has passed, everyone has been very thoughtful and sympathetic.
I believe the care they received here has enabled them to live their best end of life.

Karen Real

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2000

Karen is the Registered Manager at The Check House Nursing Home and she has been with the Group for over 20 years. She was a Senior Care Assistant for many years, becoming a Deputy Manager in 2015 and then Registered Manager in 2018.


Karen is committed to leading Check House in the provision of the highest possible standards of care.

Heather McCrea

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2009

Heather McCrea has been a Deputy Manager at The Check House Nursing Home since 2019. Heather joined Check House as a Care Assistant in 2009, becoming a Senior Care Assistant and then a Deputy Manager.


Heather is dedicated and passionate, playing a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the Home.

Tom Wills joined The Check House Nursing Home as the Administrator in 2013 and has never looked back. He enjoys working closely will all departments to ensure the smooth running of the Home. Tom became Senior Administrator in October 2021. He lives in Seaton with his wife and children.

Mayrejean Boniface is the Lead Nurse at The Check House Nursing Home. She joined in 2004 and is hugely important in overseeing the Nursing needs of all our residents.

Laurence has worked here at The Check House Care Home since 2023. He joined as a Care Assistant and worked hard to gain his nursing registration, becoming part of our wonderful Nursing team in February 2025.

Marivic Pamaylaon is Medication Coordinator at The Check House Care Home, having joined back in 2005. Marivic joined as a Care Assistant was promoted to Medication Coordinator in 2020. Marivic oversees the safe management of medication, working closely with the Lead Nurse to deliver outstanding care for all of our residents.

Claire is one of Check House’s longest-serving members of staff, having worked at the home for over 30 years. Jeremy has been part of our Maintenance team here at The Check House Care Home since January 2023. Jeremy and his colleague Martin, are jointly responsible for the general maintenance of the home. He is a qualified building surveyor and strives to ensure our care home is of the highest standards to our residents.
