So very grateful that my Dad was able to spend his last months in such a caring, wonderful place. I consider I was extremely lucky in that my Dad was a resident at The Check House. A beautiful building with wonderful views but it is so much more than that. It is like a family, all the staff, and I mean
all, are so lovely and go beyond what is expected. My Dad was a Chelsea fan, and a member of staff took it on himself to print him a weekly update on how Chelsea were doing which was kept in a folder in his room, despite said staff member being a Tottenham fan! The food is excellent and it was such a shame my Dad couldn't take full advantage but he was always accommodated with whatever he wanted, even if that was usually an omelette. The management team are so approachable and really make an effort to get to know the residents and always there for the families. A truly exceptional home, made completely perfect by the dedicated and caring family of staff. Thank you Check House!

My mother spent the last two years of her life at Check House and we are deeply grateful to all the intelligent, hard-working staff for treating her with such kindness, affection and respect. Everyone was lovely and considerate and kept us well-informed. The home itself is charming and characterful
with fine views of the sea, which Mum always loved. So much thought and consideration had clearly gone into the activities, decor, food and arrangements. We are so glad we found Check House and I doubt our mother could have found as much contentment anywhere else.

The staff (all) were extremely kind to my father - indeed all the residents I met when visiting. In addition, they made me very welcome. It is a very happy place despite the many problems dementia brings.

The Check House is very well run and an inviting place to visit. I, with my son and daughter, visited nine care homes in the area where I live before deciding The Check House was best suited to provide the care and environment my wife needed. We have never regretted our decision. The staff are professional
and friendly and I know my wife is safe and well looked after at all times.
I am kept informed of any matters that affect my wife and I am able to discuss her care plan with her lead nurse at any time.
I have been visiting my wife for over three and a half years and I look upon The Check House as my second home.

Very pleased with the care my Mum receives. The staff go out of their way to make sure she is happy and well looked after. They also answer any questions I have about her welfare and will always find out the answers if they don't know themselves.

Truly holistic care given, from the warm welcome and homegrown flowers at the entrance porch to clean bedroom and bathroom.
In between these, consistent high-quality care tailored to individual needs. There is an atmosphere of patience, tolerance, warmth and kindness throughout.

Very good home with a nice "buzz" about the atmosphere whenever visiting. My wife, with advanced Alzheimer's, is very well cared for by the friendly and compassionate staff and management. Food is excellent with a genuine choice for all meals, and the rooms are always clean and well furnished. Residents
have many activities and trips arranged for them and the monthly newsletter keeps residents and family visitors well informed about planned activities. When visiting nothing is too much trouble for the staff and a warm welcome makes so much difference. Training for staff and for family members where appropriate is well catered for. All in all an excellent home with wonderful standards of care.

My father was resident for 8 months as despite being fully compos mentis he was a very frail 96 years old.
He was treated with great kindness and dignity throughout his time there. The managers were always hands on in care and very approachable. As a daily visitor, I was made very welcome by all staff.
My father died there in a very peaceful and caring atmosphere with wonderful care from all the staff.

Someone is always on hand if anything to discuss and office always open, with managers very approachable. The home is very light, airy and often soft music playing. Dining facilities include visitors to join residents with an excellent menu and food.
A happy atmosphere with plenty of activities, residents
are able to move around freely with plenty of quiet areas away from others, for visitors to take residents somewhere private if needed.
All residents are dressed cleanly and never left in soiled clothing and well cleaned rooms with friendly staff.
A home is only as good as the staff they employ.

It's always a pleasure to visit my aunt at The Check House. The manager and her team are all friendly, welcoming and professional. As I live almost 200 miles away it's very important to feel reassured that my aunt is safe, secure and receiving the best care and this is the case with The Check House.
I would highly recommend this nursing home and their facilities and activity schedules are excellent.

Our friend has settled perfectly into the home. They are always impeccably dressed, look, and are scrupulously clean, this is important as they always took one hundred percent pride in their personal appearance. They are driven out, both on outings organised by the head of activities and on "local"
pickups and drop offs by fully trained, competent and qualified staff. They are eating and drinking very well but not so excessively that their weight is not stabilised. They are encouraged to be physically active and always look bright, happy and alert whenever we visit.

My stepfather was admitted in April 2016 for palliative care. All the staff and management were excellent and I cannot praise them enough. My father passed away and during his last days, he was treated with dignity and genuine caring by the staff. The food was excellent and "home cooked" and regardless
of whatever time his family visited we were always offered a cup of tea/coffee and a slice of homemade cake. We could if so desired have a meal. I cannot express enough my thanks and appreciation to the brilliant, caring staff.

We were upset to know our son had to be looked after in a home. Having visited the home and seen how staff had got to know about his "interests" and interacted with him we were reassured, we've seen how over the months staff are there when they're needed, and always do their job well, with a really
caring attitude, and I notice residents always look really well cared for!! we are always welcomed and well catered for when we visit. Even though we are upset about our sons illness and we know it will progress, we know the staff (now friends) will be able to attend to his needs, and this is a real comfort to us.

My mother has been a resident of this nursing home for seventeen years and during all this time she has been looked after exceptionally well. Nothing is too much trouble for the management and the staff who are always friendly. Regular activities are available every week, with outings, if you are fit
enough for them. Excellent Christmas dinner is always arranged for all the residents. 10 out of 10!

All staff appear to be very kind and comfortable under frequent very trying conditions. A lot of effort is put into providing activities to suit the residents. Karen Real

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2000

Karen is the Registered Manager at The Check House Nursing Home and she has been with the Group for over 20 years. She was a Senior Care Assistant for many years, becoming a Deputy Manager in 2015 and then Registered Manager in 2018.


Karen is committed to leading Check House in the provision of the highest possible standards of care.

Heather McCrea

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2009

Heather McCrea has been a Deputy Manager at The Check House Nursing Home since 2019. Heather joined Check House as a Care Assistant in 2009, becoming a Senior Care Assistant and then a Deputy Manager.


Heather is dedicated and passionate, playing a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the Home.

Tom Wills joined The Check House Nursing Home as the Administrator in 2013 and has never looked back. He enjoys working closely will all departments to ensure the smooth running of the Home. Tom became Senior Administrator in October 2021. He lives in Seaton with his wife and children.
