View Full Details of Thornhill Care HomeThe home has obviously had recent problems and a poor rating. Staff have been working hard to rectify this, and I have to say things have definitely been improving. The nurses and care staff who look after my mum are always caring and helpful.
Wow, I wish I hadn't worried! I have found Thornhill to be a welcoming environment, although the need of some updating, for my friend who has been there for the last 6 months and previously for respite care. I was concerned by the grade given at the last inspection, however I needn't have worried improvements are being made at a rapid pace now and she is cared for in a welcoming safe place which she considers home (most of the time!) All staff are pleasant and happy to discuss any issues/questions I may have. Onward + upwards for the management with the staff engaged in changes being introduced. Thank you to everyone.
From entry to exit, I found the staff to be both welcoming and engaging. They displayed care and attention to all the residents present during the visit. The home is undergoing a management review and the temporary manager showed a willingness to ensure the residents are cared for to a high level and all their needs are met wherever possible.
My mum has been here for at least 6 years. I have always felt confident that she is cared for well, I find the atmosphere is good, and the staff are kind and helpful. I have sampled the food and find it to be good. My mum is mostly happy and smiley, I think they have good activities, and can always see them doing something on their social media page. Overall, I am very satisfied.
I find Thornhill Care Home a nice environment for my auntie, she has settled nicely and they look after her very well. Pretty basic but clean and not smelly like some care homes I've visited. Everyone always seems nice and polite and welcoming when I've been to visit. Thank you for watching over my auntie.
I come to visit a friend about once a month and I am well impressed with the activity organiser and the work she does, different activities with residents each time I come. If she is there, which she usually is midweek. I do come on different days each time when it fits in. Other staff are very pleasant but a lot do not say much but refer me to staff in charge. On security, I will say I have brought presents for Christmas and birthday and never seen them again. Recently, the door is locked so hopefully things will be better in regards to that. I have been coming for two years.
I came from hospital with no choice. I have found that I get the support I need. I prefer to stay in my room, but will come for some activities, quizzes etc. I find the staff helpful, friendly and happy to help.
I am very comfortable and happy at Thornhill. My room is pleasant and the food is prepared especially for me as I have a pureed diet. I enjoy all the activities that I can take part in. All the staff are brilliant, they will do anything for me.
After a time of the home having no manager and still delivering a professional and caring approach, it is lovely to see a new manager with the same work ethic, ensuring that residents are well cared for, families are welcomed and positive changes beginning to happen. Also on a personal note, it's great to see my mum cared for by such kind and caring members of staff. Always seen to be so patient and understanding. My mum is doing so well and is enjoying the fantastic activities organised by the entertainment coordinator and visitors that make the day more enjoyable. An important factor for me is being able to speak to any member of staff with issues relating to Mum, however big and small, and they are always treated with professionalism and help which is so reassuring to family near and far. A huge thank you to all staff.
Mum came here in December 2023 after we'd been impressed by the staff we met on our initial visit to view the home, she was immediately made welcome and integrated into the activities. I am a regular visitor and always feel there is a good number of staff taking care of the residents. My mum is treated well and has settled in well, she is also enjoying her food again which is prepared fresh onsite daily. There are various activities taking place on a regular basis. Overall, we are delighted to have my mum as a resident here.
Staff are knowledgeable in their respective roles, but they also demonstrate genuine compassion and empathy towards the residents. It is evident that they truly care about the well-being and happiness of each individual under their care. They go above and beyond to ensure that my dad's needs are met, and they always treat him with the utmost respect and dignity. The facilities are spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable and homely environment for the residents. The common areas are beautifully decorated and offer a range of amenities, including a cosy lounge area. One aspect that sets the home apart is the wide range of activities and programmes available to the residents. The activities coordinator does an incredible job of organizing and ensuring everyone can participate. We couldn't have chosen a better place for my dad to live.
My aunt's birthday was recently celebrated with a splendid party. She is bright and relaxed and enjoys the company and activities. Thank you all.
Very caring and helpful staff who make sure residents are happy and treated with respect. All residents are included in the varied activities that are organised in the home. Help is offered if any problems do occur. Medication is delivered in an efficient manner and the health of residents is always taken into consideration.
Lovely calm atmosphere. Mum could not remember to ask for a wash and change of clothes so at times didn't get either often enough. I accept that what Mum hoards will have caused the smell but some days concurrently the room smelt. Overall the stay was most beneficial and we would use the facility again.
Thornhill was a pleasant home. My mother settled in quickly. All the staff had Mum's best interests at heart. Nothing was too much trouble for them. In my mum's declining weeks, they were kindness itself to family and towards Mum. Knowing Mum was in good professional hands, made it easier for myself and my sister.
Very good.
Staff very friendly but not enough of them. Did not interact with my mum (she has dementia) when she was there, neither did they follow her care plan. Be careful what they quote for care because as soon as they found out we would be paying for it ourselves the price was nearly doubled.
Since my dad has been in Thornhill, we fell that the staff are particularly efficient when there's a concern with my dad. All staff are reassuring when we ask questions. They are very friendly. The kitchen staff always offer hospitality and know my dad's needs and go beyond. To care for all of us. Excellent.
My mum has been here for two and a half years and has received excellent care. All the staff are friendly and willing to chat about my mum's care and needs. A nice homely feel to the care home and the staff are good at dealing with my mum who can be stubborn and awkward at times. She is reluctant to join in the activities but the staff are good at gently encouraging her. The meals are good and I speak from one who knows having eaten meals when visiting my mum.
The staff are always friendly and very supportive and keep to help. My sister says "very professional but sometimes slow at dealing with problems although they are very busy at times. Times when waiting to go for a walkabout, not always able to do so".
