View Full Details of Appleby GrangeMy husband moved to Appleby Grange in April 2025 to be closer to myself and the family. My husband suffered with advanced Alzheimer's and we were a little worried that moving him at this stage would have a negative affect on his health. We need not have worried as the Appleby Grange family welcomed my husband and our family with open arms and cared for my husband with care and compassion. The staff at Appleby Grange showed great respect and cared for my husband in a professional and loving way reassuring us all at every step that this was my husband and our second home and that we were welcome at any time to visit my husband. Sadly our beloved passed away on the 23rd May and the manager and all the staff made sure that my husband's last days were filled with friendship and love, all his favourite music and professional care. Our grateful and heartfelt thanks to manager and all the Appleby Grange family. We will never forget what you did for us all.
Having experienced one other care home, we think Appleby Grange is far better and is in the same price band. The staff kept us informed. My dad was not easy to get on with but the staff seemed to grin and bear it. Our only minor crisis is the decor. It is a little shabby and the colours are drab; some brighter shades might be considered.
Early days but so far so good, food very good, attention to dietry needs very good, staff on the whole are on the ball. The outside terrace area needs more attention, (cigarette ends, litter. etc)
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The home is very clean and the patients are well cared for.
Been to family day today which was a lovely experience with excellent food and entertainment. Overall dad is happy in Appleby Grange and well cared for, the staff give that little bit extra to make residents feel at home.
My dad is treated with dignity and respect. The staff are all very caring and do a great job. The home is always trying to put on activities to keep the residents entertained.
A lovely home, welcoming, friendly and very clean, a relaxing atmosphere. Staff are all very friendly, getting us tea and offering snacks if needed, Mums room is calming, homely and clean. When we visit mum is always relaxed and seems very happy and content.
My mother has been at The Grange for the past twelve months. During that time, she has been treated with care and respect by everyone. Nothing is too much trouble, and we are always greeted by friendly, smiling faces.
It is a lovely place, feels like home from home, not like other care homes I have been to. The staff are all friendly and make you welcome.
Home from home.
I find the staff very professional. Any concerns are listened to and actioned upon. My Dad has been at the home for 7 months and has not had one pressure sore. The manager is excellent and my Dad relates to her well. My Dad is a hard person to appease, due to his stroke.
Our dear mum has been a resident at Appleby Grange since January 2020. It was a difficult decision to entrust her care to others, but after a careful search, we concluded that it was by far the best place for her to be. She has always received and continues to receive, the utmost in care, attention and above all, love and respect from all the staff, management, carers, nurses, catering staff and housekeeping staff. We are kept fully informed of any ongoing health issues she may have and the food provided is second to none! Unfortunately, she is now rarely able to participate in all the activities but she used to love all the live music on offer every week. We are so grateful we entrusted the care of our lovely Mum, now 97, to the care of all at Appleby Grange.
My friend has lived at Appleby Grange since February of this year, she has previously stayed for respite and requested a permanent placement for after Christmas 2022. We have found her to be very well cared for, her room is clean, the bed is made and she is dressed when we visit. She always has a drink of her choice and is checked upon to ensure she is drinking it. She requires full assistance to eat her meals, which are provided. Her husband often takes the family dog for visits which always gives her pleasure. As her friends, we are always made welcome. We aren’t aware of her meals but are encouraged to bring in additional treats, including fresh fruit and chocolates.
The staff at Appleby Grange are caring and attentive. They respect the dignity of residents and attend to their needs with helpful enthusiasm whilst also providing a welcoming environment for their visitors.
My wife has been admitted to Appleby Grange suffering from progressive supranuclear palsy, a degenerative form of Parkinson's. As such she requires 24 hour nursing care which we are unable to give her at home. The care staff are very diligent, answering her calls promptly and helping her in and out of bed, to the bathroom, dressing her and undressing her and providing her meals. My wife requires feeding as she can no longer feed herself so the carers take on this task. They do all these tasks with a smile despite the fact that Hilary has a morbid fear of falling which results in her gripping anything while she is being moved. The nursing staff are on call 24/7 and administer all my wife's medication as well as monitoring her general health. The management are particularly attentive and have immediately responded to the few minor issues we had when my wife first moved in last January. Overall I rate Appleby Grange very highly.
When visiting Appleby Grange I have been impressed by the atmosphere and cleanliness. There are always staff around who are extremely friendly and helpful. Although I cannot personally comment about the care of my relative, I have seen nothing to suggest that it is not of a very high standard.
I am very pleased with the response of management and staff to my son's needs. He is treated with care and dignity and not a little humour. He has not been at Appleby for very long and the early weeks were a learning experience for everyone. An experience that was conducted with honestly. Despite not being a typical nursing home patient he is included and enjoys being there.
Placing a loved one in a care home is a very big decision. Having made the decision all I can say is we made the right one and picked the right place in Appleby Grange. All staff show compassion and care to all residents. All the time the staff are never having a bad bay, always smiling and happy. We would recommend Appleby Grange to anyone.
