View Full Details of ShawSide Care VillageA lovely modern bright clean diner/lounge that invites all visitors and residents alike to sit and chat. The staff are friendly and attentive. A small garden with picnic tables and pots of flowers very welcoming. I'm visiting in the Oldham annex today and what a delight to be able to say that.
Dad has been here a couple of years now & all continues to be good. Staff are mainly good & pleasant and helpful apart from when occasionally agency staff are used due to staff shortages and they may not know dad's character. Overall good.
I would 100% recommend Beech House at Shawside Care Home. My mum in law has been a resident for 2 years and she has been really well looked after and always seemed happy and content and appreciates the connections she has made with the staff. They are very invested in the wellbeing and happiness of the residents and keep a close eye on them. We have always felt she is safe in their care. The Manager is really efficient and always keeps us updated if there is anything to discuss or share with us. Tilly is a joy and asset to Beech House and we have really appreciated her kind and gentle manner. All of the staff work hard and are constantly on the go meeting the residents needs.
Fantastic care and family support.
My mum has been at Shore House since January 2025. She was very unsettled at first but now enjoys the company activities, her bedroom position for the View. Mum has a good rapport with staff, she loves the food, especially the puddings. I am very pleased with the management and staff and feel they are very approachable and always advise me when there is any concerns with Mum. Mum is particularly fond of two staff members who are very caring towards her. Mum really enjoys the trips out the home and the parties in the home, especially Mother's Day. Mum really enjoys the on-site hairdresser which cheers her up. Overall, I'm very pleased with the care and service.
My mum moved into Shawside ( shaw house) 3 years ago after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's my mum is cared for with respect compassion and dignity every single carer is amazing at the level of care they provide every day and the compassion they have for the residents, my mum had a fall a few weeks ago (which she is prone to) when I arrived it was heartwarming to see a carer and the manager of shaw house sat on the floor by her side comforting her while waiting for paramedics to arrive they never left her side I've worked in care homes and I've never witnessed that level of care from management. There is always activities and outings to garden centres, bowling and other places and the atmosphere is always great I'm in no doubt every day when I leave my mum is in the best place she is cared for in a safe clean impeccably managed home which I am so grateful for.
Such lovely staff they take amazing care of my nan, she wants for nothing the staff always have her best interest at heart and do everything they can to make sure she still has the best life possible whilst residing at shaw house
My father entered Royton House at ShawSide Care Village in July 2024. The facilities are in a very pleasant off-road setting & dad's room has a nice view of the garden. There is an outside area with seats & tables so residents can sit outside. Room & laundry are always clean. The home feels very safe & pleasant. My dad is very happy here. A care plan was developed for dads specific needs, considering both his physical & mental wellbeing. The home organises trips out & have weekly entertainment events, such as virtual horse racing, Scalextric & painting. The home also arranges for an optician & a chiropodist for dad. Food looks appetising & I have sat with dad many times & seen him enjoy a well-balanced meal that I would enjoy myself. From my observations the staff are by far the biggest asset. They take great care of dad's hygiene & act with professionalism & compassion all of the time. They go that one step extra & connect with dad in a way that only someone who truly cares could do.
The manager and wonderful carers at Beech House have diligently supported my Mum through 2 cancer diagnoses and reduced mobility. For over 10 years the home manager has ensured that my Mum has been attentively cared for in an atmosphere of respect and fun. The team are a credit to her and I want to thank them all for supporting Mum and the family on this journey. Through laughter and tears, they have been amazing.
Since going into this Care Home my dad settled instantly and I felt he was cared for in a caring, compassionate way. The Manager went above and beyond to make sure my dad had everything in place for when he arrived to make him as comfortable and as cared for as possible. She always had time to talk and update us all the time and even rang me if I couldn't get in. The staff are caring and nothing is too much trouble and always got time to chat if I had any questions too and is exactly how you expect a care home to run. My Dad only spent 4 weeks there before passing away on Friday but I couldn't fault it as he was really looked after having come from a home in Middleton who neglected him so a big thank you to the manager and your team for the love and care you gave my dad. Anyone needing a Care Home then I highly recommend Shawside Care Village can't praise it enough.
My mother spent 12 months at Shaw/Miller Houses. During that time, the staff was always helpful, kind, and courteous. They provided dignity and professional care to my Mum who suffered from dementia. She passed away in the care home with me and my family present. The team was amazing. The entire time of her passing and beyond.
To start on a positive: My mum's room is clean, although when I visit I attend with wipes and wipe over surfaces. Miller House has a few lovely staff. I witnessed recently only one member of staff being on duty/shift at 6pm. This was a horrific visit with my mum as I was very aware of the other 16/17 residents in the lounge left to their own devices. Having walked the corridors to find a carer/senior carer, I then found the staff member that was on duty. Yes I did express my views on the current situation. I was greeted with Yes I'm the only person on duty... scheduled staff have rang in sick and Bloomcare have cut staff hours! Bloomcare at this point made it my issue! I am addressing this issue directly with Care Quality Commission/Adult Social Care. Yes ShawSide have attempted to contact me, I wasn't able to take the call. The manager works 9/5 like me. Bloomcare have a lot of work to do with staff that display openly they don't want to be there!
Since arriving at ShawSide my wife settled in quite quickly. She is content and calm. Her quality of life has improved and the care and attention from all members of staff have been one of the main reasons, she seems happy with her surroundings. I was told by two sets of neighbours who in the past had been residents of ShawSide that my wife would be content and feel safe and this has been the case. The staff give their all in looking after the residents. Thank you.
I am constantly pleasantly surprised by the standard and attention to the needs of every resident in the home, cared for and entertained every single day, backed up by the residents themselves choosing to stay there voluntarily in a happy atmosphere. My own mother's condition with Dementia has greatly improved and her quality of life has improved significantly because of the constant care received since being given a place in the home, she is happy, content, safe and well nourished and totally comfortable in her surroundings, a statement which I never thought I would be able to make, giving me the peace of mind that there is no better place for her to be at this time in her life. For all the reasons stated above I would 100% totally recommend Shawside Care Home to anybody worried about making the decision on behalf of somebody unable to care for themselves. I would like to publicly thank the staff for all their past contributions and am secure of their attention in the future.
The staff are friendly and very approachable, nothing is too much trouble. They all work very hard to keep everything running as smooth as possible, I can't thank them enough for the care they give my loved one. The activities staff are a great team and are really good at interacting with the residents, a big thank you to them all.
During the three years that my wife was resident at Shaw Side the care and consideration given to her were exceptional. On my almost daily visits I was impressed with the care of her personal life, wellbeing and contentment. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Generally very pleased with Mum's care as most of the staff are kind, caring and thoughtful. My mum's room is cleaned daily and is tidy. Love the on-site coffee shop. Gardens are untidy with cigarette ends all over the floor. The flagging is uneven and quite dangerous. There has been a new fence erected, so maybe work on the gardens is ongoing. My mum (and other residents) loves the bird feeders. The entertainment staff work hard to try and ensure that residents are amused. The food smells and looks amazing. If residents do not want to/can't eat in the lounge, then staff take it to their rooms. I have two concerns; One is that it can take ages to get in and out of the unit. Staff have to walk down a long corridor each time to let you in and out. This must be frustrating for them when they are busy with residents. The other concern is that residents are allowed to enter other residents' room. This sometimes results in items being removed. My mum has had items missing from her room but I have found items in her handbag that do not belong to her her but to someone else.
Overall the care village is reasonably well run and they take of my father-in-law well.
The staff are thoughtful, caring and treat my father with the most dignity. My father's stay and care are looked after each and every day. Any questions I have or queries are answered thoroughly.
Staff caring and friendly. No problem with Dad's care with one exception... clothes! Not always wearing his own clothes.
