View Full Details of Bedford Care HomeDon't allow your loved ones to stay here, shocking. Very poor. My mother was allowed to fall out of her chair, she broke her femur. This turned out to be a death sentence. She was put on palliative care and passed away 3 weeks later. She was on the mend until the fall.
My Dad had a fall in May of this year and when he was discharged from the hospital he was transferred here to Bedford care home for rehabilitation and reading the reviews I was a bit hesitatant but wow he was in room 7 for nearly two months and the care he received was outstanding from all the seniors carers and day and night right down to the Physiotherapist who was amazing and giving him the confidence and motivation to help him walk again he's been back at his own home now for the last month which he's doing remarkably well and I can't thank this Care home enough for all the support and caring they all given my Dad and infact he enjoyed this home so much he didn't want to leave so for us we are giving 5 stars because I wouldn't hesitate if he ever had to go back there so a big Thankyou to all those involved in his care it means so much. Thankyou to five members of staff, in particular. On Day shift and the Night staff shift also the Physio you've all been amazing x
From the moment we arrived to visit, we were made to feel very welcome and given a detailed summary of how our relative was doing. The member of staff went above and beyond and was so lovely and patient with our relative. He was in very good spirits and the best we have seen him in a while. A huge thank you to you all :)
I was very impressed with the cate my auntie was given over the last few years. All staff were professional and caring.
Staff are very friendly and approachable. The food does not allways match what is displayed on the menu. Appears limited choice for someone on a special diet ie. low fiber due to a stoma. Maybe plain chicken could be offered when chicked is offered in a sauce. Maybe sometimes skinless sausage option. Plain chips when wedges with skins on menu. Potatoe waffles and fish fingers would be nice rather than sauces or spicy food.
I can't thank the staff enough for the care and support provided to my mum during her D2A stay with them. Very caring attitude and always on hand as needed. Rooms were comfortable. Good variety of food provided.
All the staff are excellent!! Food is the biggest issue, my mother is a pescatarian and the sum total of choice seemed to be soup and sandwiches,, limited to choice of cheese or tuna or sausages (usually burnt). My mother is severely underweight and with the limited choice she wasn't encouraged to eat well, even getting brown bread was a chore. In 2025 the amount of vegetarian choice surely goes beyond, cheese, sausages or tuna.
Dad and I had cared for mum for several months at home and hoped to continue doing so but a fall and subsequent hospital stay affected her mobility such that we couldn't safely look after her. When she was discharged from hospital she had a short stay somewhere with the hope that her mobility might improve enough for her to return home. Sadly this wasn't the case and she was transferred to Beech House at Bedford Nursing Home. The care that mum received far exceeded our expectations, every single member of staff that we met, cleaning staff, leadership team, nursing staff, all obviously cared so much for the residents. We visited pretty much daily and without exception a member of staff had briefed us on how mum was that day before we got to her room. We really worried about mum going in to a care home but honestly this place is staffed by angels who treated mum with understanding, compassion and love. The care mum received was excellent. Five stars doesn't seem enough.
My sister seem to be very happy here. She always smiling and happy. The staff are very good, but do seemed short staffed at time but thats no fault of theirs. They are always happy to help and nothing is too much trouble for any of them.
Understaffed & underfunded! Night staff either unable or unwilling to help patients to the commode, patients are told to use incontinence pants - NO DIGNITY! Had to ask for my mums hair to be washed. Was told it was done weekly, but it was over 10 days since she had been admitted! Little interaction or encouragement to get mobile again whilst recovering from a broken ankle. When she pressed her call button to use the toilet, no urgency & she was constantly told about all the other patients waiting for attention. Initially my mum was put into a room with a faulty bed, it didn't raise and for 2 nights 'slept' on a disconnected air mattress! I asked if there were any other rooms available and was told there wasn't. I asked again for my mum to be transferred to another room, finally she was. I asked how long this room had been available & it had been free for about a week!! Staffing issues need to be resolved, it's not acceptable that people have to live in these conditions.
Mum was transferred from hospital to Croft House at Bedford care home. This was our first experience and we were apprehensive about what to expect. From my first phone call to the home, throughout all our visits to the last call the staff were amazing. To provide end of life care is a huge thing to ask but the staff were caring to Mum and a great support to us. Although some of the fittings and decor looked tired the place was spotless and cleaned to a high standard. Thank you for all you did
The staff at beech house were truly amazing with my dad in the two weeks he was there Whilst his needs were assessed. As a family we felt like they kept us fully informed at all times and if we had any concerns they were more than happy to help. All the staff were extremely friendly and always made Sure my dad was clean and comfortable even the times he was being difficult. I can honestly say the staff work so hard and they engage with all the residents even when they are really busy they treated my dad with dignity and respect at all times that goes for all the staff from nurses to the cleaners. We felt reassured that my dad was receiving the correct care whilst he was at beech house. We cannot thank the staff enough for making my dads time at beech house a positive experience and it was the only the distance for us that we knew we would have to move him to somewhere closer to home.
My Father was placed in Bedford Care Home after 2 strokes, Wigan hospital said he was moving to a home, it was a worry for my sisters and I, to be fair we had not heard of Bedford Care Home, however, there was no need to worry as all the staff where fantastic, my Father had his own room, but spent most of his time in the communal lounge, where the was always staff around to cater for all his needs, the staff also created interesting things for them all to do, my Father actually enjoyed the care, and they helped him with his recovery, as he began to feel better, and eventually we took him home. I have to say, "The staff helped him in his recovery and my thanks go out to them".
Before my Mum was moved to Bedford, she stayed inside all day, she didn't eat well, didn't sleep well, was reluctant to mix with other people and was becoming more and more agoraphobic and morbid. Since she moved to Bedford in January, she has really started to enjoy life a lot more. She has been out to dancing and singing events, Bolton aquarium and museum, attended parties and made new friends and is even going ten pin bowling next week! I am so thrilled with the love and care provided by the whole team at Bedford, especially the way the activities team are able to get my Mum involved. It must have taken an enormous effort to get my Mum to believe she can be happy again and I can really see that she enjoys every interaction with the carers, nurses and staffing team. She now eats like a horse, sleeps in a proper bed and she even thanked me on my last visit for "giving her, her life back!". Thank you to the Bedford team for caring and helping my Mum to 'be happy' again!
Wouldn't put my worst enemy in this care home, the lack of care and acknowledgement the staff give their patients is evil. My nan sat from 6am to 4:30 pm in her own filth and was only changed as I requested it. This was done on multiple occasions. 40 beds and 5 staff at best. Ridiculous. Luckily we moved my nan to a different care facility after 2 weeks. I would give this place 0 stars if I could.
I would like to say that the staff, from the people behind the scenes, to the staff on the units, are amazing. The care and love they give, without it being false, is truly humbling. Both our parents are there and I can say hand on heart it was the best thing we could have done for Mum and Dad. There is joy and laughter, the rooms are clean and if mum is having one of her off days, shall we say, they go above and beyond, even making her jam butties, as she loves them. Never have I left there thinking I'd chosen the wrong home. I know I couldn't have done any more. All the staff are brilliant. I don't know the management hence 4 stars, but everyone else is 5.
My mum went into care in October 2024 due to her Lewy bodies. She was initially assessed in a unit and then was moved to Astley House. Since being there, my sister and I are much happier. She is more settled and content. My dad came into Astley House in December 2024. We tried to keep him home but he wanted to be with mum. He is well cared for. The carers are kind and look after all residents with a passion for ensuring they are engaged in activities and happy.
My mum moved to Bedford Care Home in December following twelve months in another care home. We chose Bedford due to my mum's rapid declining health with dementia and Alzheimer's. The care home she originally went in did not meet her care needs, since moving to Bedford last month, I have noticed a massive change in her everyday life. She has now settled in relatively well, has a lovely room which we have been able to make a "home". The staff from senior management, carers, domestics and activity workers are brilliant. They are very knowledgeable when dealing with advanced dementia and very caring. This for us, as a family, has been the best and right decision for my lovely mum. I used to dread visiting her in her other care home as both she and myself would be quite stressed and get upset, now, thanks to Bedford, I do not have the same worries and anxiety, this is due to them actually caring for my mum like one of their own.
My dad was a resident on Lilford Unit for over three years and latterly, on Pennington where Dad passed away. The care my dad received was given with love, patience and kindness during this time by all staff. During end of life, the care team attended to Dad, making sure he was clean and comfortable. Both day and night staff treated Dad with kindness and respect while he was unconscious and everyone supported me throughout the time there, giving me emotional support and care. What I can take away from my experience is that everyone knocked on the door before entering Dad's room, his personal care was attended to every 2 hours, both day and night. I was given plenty of food and drinks while I stayed with Dad and received lots of emotional support. Care staff from other units who knew Dad visited to see how he was doing and when he passed gave me their condolences. I never wanted Dad to go to hospital but stay at the care home to die as he was cared for so well by brilliant and caring people.
My mother who is 89 years of age has been a resident in Astley House Bedford Care Home for the past 12 months. After suffering from frequent falls it became apparent she required 24 hour care. All the staff are excellent in their care and treatment of my mother and the organised activities are a great way in helping to keep her mind active, slowing down the declining process that aging brings. The food is excellent quality with great variety and I find this is also helping in giving her more strength in her body than she previously had. The days out are superb whether it's visiting a museum or having afternoon tea. Regular visits from the hairdresser ensures my mother always looks nice keeping her dignity. She has her own room if she wants some quiet time but I always find her in the main room with all the other residents socialising. I am extremely pleased and grateful to the staff for their dedication carrying out their duties and their treatment of my mother.
