My husband is on Lilford. All the staff are very caring and do a marvellous job, I would recommend Lilford to anyone.
He has been there for two years now. Every resident is treated with care and respect. I can ring any time if needed and can visit any time.
He couldn't be in a better place.

Liz has been in Lilford since late December. Her first night in another unit I found the staff spent more time on their mobile phones than engaging with the residents. In Lilford the staff are first class always mixing, talking and helping the residents. My only concern is that the residents seem to
share clothes as Liz's have been missing on a number of times for several days.
I am more than happy that Liz is settled gets on well with the staff and other residents. If asked I would recommend Lilford to anyone
Reply from Paul Lawson, Head of Sales and Marketing at Bedford Care HomeThank-you so much for your lovely review. We are delighted that Liz is so settled and content and grateful that you have taken the time to share your positive experience. We do like to inform families that the hand-held devices staff use are PCS tools which record resident's daily interactions, food and fluid intake, routines etc. They resemble mobile phones which can cause confusion but if you ask the staff they will share with you how they work. Unfortunately when residents are living with dementia clothing items do get misplaced or picked up by mistake, we like to think that they will make their way back to their owners and for that reason recommend expensive jewellery or accessories are not brought into the home as they are precious and sentimental and should be kept somewhere safe. However if there are any specific items that have gone missing please let us know and we will do our utmost to retrieve them. Best wishes.

My dad is well looked after. I feel like there is a better presence in Lilford house and my Dad is more looked after. I've noticed he's a lot cleaner here and the carers are more passionate. He's been a bit happier but still with the odd days feeling down. Carers seem to be less in the office here and
more out being proactive. We appreciate the care and passion within Lilford and it means a lot to all of us.

Visited my mum, whilst there, the man who does the activities was there. He asked if anyone wanted and instrament as it was music time. He sang songs to which residents all joined in, which was good to see, my mum remembering the words to the songs. The man doing the activities was really good with
the residents, he was caring, encouraging and respectful to which they responded.

Whilst I would not fill a review in as I am either to critical or to soft, from what I have seen the staff are firm but friendly with patients. Their is as with anywhere these a shortage of staff, and my pet hate is how long it takes staff to answer the door when visiting.
Reply from Joanne Fishwick, Home Manager at Bedford Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback with us - we really appreciate you doing so. It's lovely to hear that you've found our staff to be both firm and friendly in their approach, as maintaining kindness alongside good care standards is very important to us.
We also acknowledge your comments regarding staffing levels and the wait time when arriving to visit. We understand how frustrating this can be and are continually working to improve responsiveness while ensuring residents remain safe and well cared for. Your feedback helps us identify where we can do better, and we will certainly take it on board.
Thank you again for sharing your experience with us. Your comments are valued and help us continue to improve our service.

I am very happy with the care that my husband has received so far from the nurses and care staff at Bedford (Beech House). His health and physical needs are always tended to and the doctor called recently and blood tests etc have done.
The room is always clean and tidy and his clothes always washed
and hanging in his wardrobe. All in all an excellent nursing home that is very suitable for my husbands needs!

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.379)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.379) out of 10 for Bedford Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 66 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.379 for Bedford Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (476 Excellents x 5) + (181 Goods x 4) + (55 Satisfactorys x 3) + (11 Poors x 2) + (37 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 760 Ratings = 4.379
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bedford Care Home is based on 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 180 registered maximum number of service users is 36, which has been reached with 59 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started at Bedford Care Home as a Care assistant in 2005. I loved working here at the Nursing Dementia house I was at then, Since this I have progressed in my career through various roles at Bedford. I have been a Nursing Assistant, Unit Manager, Head of Care and Deputy Manager and I am very proud to now be the registered Manager.

I have always had a passion for Caring since leaving school and the Dream was to become a Nurse, But I took a different route as I had children early on.

My Goal is to make Bedford have a warm and welcoming feel to ensure residents/families, staff and visitors all feel at home. Everyone at Bedford is like Family.
