My mum is on the Lilford unit and she is taken care of by the wonderful staff on that unit. I can not praise the staff on this unit enough. I certainly wouldn't hesitate if I had another family member needing their services.

My grandmother is on Lilford unit and has been a resident for over a year. My grandmother is looked after really well by all the staff on the unit. They are extremely helpful and always keep us as a family updated, about all her care on the unit. If we have any issues they are always there to answer and help with any issue. All staff on the unit are caring towards all the residents within the unit and are always present and around to help with everyone. Senior staff are always able to give updates on my grandmothers care especially when they are unwell. They also ensure that when anything occurs on the unit then we as a family are always made aware of what is happening. The unit is always clean and tidy. They always ensure that her room is looked after and that my grandmothers belongings are looked after. Fantastic team and unit Lilford Unit.

From doing the initial walk round with a member of staff I knew that Bedford was the home for my parents. All the staff I have come into contact with from cleaners, maintenance, carers and managers of units are wonderful. They know there residents, there triggers and there moods. I am very lucky to have found a place that I know is safe, clean and caring to our most vulnerable.

One member of staff, in particular, is on any concerns that I may have; if my mum is having a bad day. The staff work tirelessley, long shifts which can drain them. But they always greet you with a smile and a kind word. These carers are the best.

Don't allow your loved ones to stay here, shocking. Very poor. My mother was allowed to fall out of her chair, she broke her femur. This turned out to be a death sentence. She was put on palliative care and passed away 3 weeks later. She was on the mend until the fall.

My Dad had a fall in May of this year and when he was discharged from the hospital he was transferred here to Bedford care home for rehabilitation and reading the reviews I was a bit hesitatant but wow he was in room 7 for nearly two months and the care he received was outstanding from all the seniors carers and day and night right down to the Physiotherapist who was amazing and giving him the confidence and motivation to help him walk again he's been back at his own home now for the last month which he's doing remarkably well and I can't thank this Care home enough for all the support and caring they all given my Dad and infact he enjoyed this home so much he didn't want to leave so for us we are giving 5 stars because I wouldn't hesitate if he ever had to go back there so a big Thankyou to all those involved in his care it means so much.

Thankyou to five members of staff, in particular. On Day shift and the Night staff shift also the Physio you've all been amazing x

From the moment we arrived to visit, we were made to feel very welcome and given a detailed summary of how our relative was doing.
The member of staff went above and beyond and was so lovely and patient with our relative.
He was in very good spirits and the best we have seen him in a while.

Staff are very friendly and approachable. The food does not allways match what is displayed on the menu.

Appears limited choice for someone on a special diet ie. low fiber due to a stoma. Maybe plain chicken could be offered when chicked is offered in a sauce. Maybe sometimes skinless sausage option. Plain chips when wedges with skins on menu. Potatoe waffles and fish fingers would be nice rather than sauces or spicy food.

All the staff are excellent!!

Food is the biggest issue, my mother is a pescatarian and the sum total of choice seemed to be soup and sandwiches,, limited to choice of cheese or tuna or sausages (usually burnt). My mother is severely underweight and with the limited choice she wasn't encouraged to eat well, even getting brown bread was a chore. In 2025 the amount of vegetarian choice surely goes beyond, cheese, sausages or tuna.

Dad and I had cared for mum for several months at home and hoped to continue doing so but a fall and subsequent hospital stay affected her mobility such that we couldn't safely look after her. When she was discharged from hospital she had a short stay somewhere with the hope that her mobility might improve enough for her to return home. Sadly this wasn't the case and she was transferred to Beech House at Bedford Nursing Home. The care that mum received far exceeded our expectations, every single member of staff that we met, cleaning staff, leadership team, nursing staff, all obviously cared so much for the residents. We visited pretty much daily and without exception a member of staff had briefed us on how mum was that day before we got to her room. We really worried about mum going in to a care home but honestly this place is staffed by angels who treated mum with understanding, compassion and love. The care mum received was excellent. Five stars doesn't seem enough.

Understaffed & underfunded! Night staff either unable or unwilling to help patients to the commode, patients are told to use incontinence pants - NO DIGNITY! Had to ask for my mums hair to be washed. Was told it was done weekly, but it was over 10 days since she had been admitted!
Little interaction or encouragement to get mobile again whilst recovering from a broken ankle. When she pressed her call button to use the toilet, no urgency & she was constantly told about all the other patients waiting for attention.
Initially my mum was put into a room with a faulty bed, it didn't raise and for 2 nights 'slept' on a disconnected air mattress!

I asked if there were any other rooms available and was told there wasn't. I asked again for my mum to be transferred to another room, finally she was. I asked how long this room had been available & it had been free for about a week!! Staffing issues need to be resolved, it's not acceptable that people have to live in these conditions.

Mum was transferred from hospital to Croft House at Bedford care home. This was our first experience and we were apprehensive about what to expect. From my first phone call to the home, throughout all our visits to the last call the staff were amazing. To provide end of life care is a huge thing to ask but the staff were caring to Mum and a great support to us. Although some of the fittings and decor looked tired the place was spotless and cleaned to a high standard. Thank you for all you did

The staff at beech house were truly amazing with my dad in the two weeks he was there
Whilst his needs were assessed.
As a family we felt like they kept us fully informed at all times and if we had any concerns they were more than happy to help. All the staff were extremely friendly and always made

Sure my dad was clean and comfortable even the times he was being difficult. I can honestly say the staff work so hard and they engage with all the residents even when they are really busy they treated my dad with dignity and respect at all times that goes for all the staff from nurses to the cleaners. We felt reassured that my dad was receiving the correct care whilst he was at beech house. We cannot thank the staff enough for making my dads time at beech house a positive experience and it was the only the distance for us that we knew we would have to move him to somewhere closer to home.

My Father was placed in Bedford Care Home after 2 strokes, Wigan hospital said he was moving to a home, it was a worry for my sisters and I, to be fair we had not heard of Bedford Care Home, however, there was no need to worry as all the staff where fantastic, my Father had his own room, but spent most of his time in the communal lounge, where the was always staff around to cater for all his needs, the staff also created interesting things for them all to do, my Father actually enjoyed the care, and they helped him with his recovery, as he began to feel better, and eventually we took him home.

I have to say, "The staff helped him in his recovery and my thanks go out to them".

Joanne FishwickJob Title:Home Manager

I started at Bedford Care Home as a Care assistant in 2005. I loved working here at the Nursing Dementia house I was at then, Since this I have progressed in my career through various roles at Bedford. I have been a Nursing Assistant, Unit Manager, Head of Care and Deputy Manager and I am very proud to now be the registered Manager.

I have always had a passion for Caring since leaving school and the Dream was to become a Nurse, But I took a different route as I had children early on.

My Goal is to make Bedford have a warm and welcoming feel to ensure residents/families, staff and visitors all feel at home. Everyone at Bedford is like Family.
