View Full Details of Barchester Lucerne House Care HomeBoth parents were staying at Lucerne House. Both with different needs. The care they both receive dwas examplary. Nothing was ever too much trouble. I have had no experience of care homes before Mum + Dad had to move in but it was the small things that the staff did, above and beyond. Watching them care for all residents as if they were there own family. Thankyou to all the staff at Lucerne House for such special care for Mum + Dad x.
Management and staff do their very best to provide a home from home, with professionalism, care, kindness and at times a great sense of humour. The staff go out of their way to make life easier for residents and relatives and friends alike.
Where does one start with a review for such excellence? My mum was very frightened arriving at Lucerne House but the manager put her at ease in an instant and before she was out of the car. Inside, it's like a hotel. The dementia care is exceptional. For the residents it's quiet voices and gentle hands, constant attention and support with humour and laughter from the wonderful staff. Visiting relatives too are treated not only with care and compassion but also to coffee, tea, cake and even lunch. Mum's time at Lucerne House was a great comfort for her and a great comfort for my family and me. We knew she hadn't long to live and when the time came for end of life care, the exemplary way in which the nursing staff looked after her during those last days is something I'll remember and be grateful for forever.
My brother has been a resident of Lucerne House, Exeter for one year. During this time he has been treated with outstanding care and dignity. The standard of care is exemplary from every member of staff, showing compassion, patience and respectfulness at all times. Their cheerfulness, empathy and gentle approach, are qualities always present, to both resident (and relative), often during very difficult and demanding times. My brother's mixed dementia can be challenging at times, but with their caring, professional and knowledgeable approach, I have peace of mind knowing that he couldn't be in better hands. Lucerne House is a very happy care home providing a huge variety of daily activities, giving stimulation and enjoyment to all residents, to which relatives and visitors are welcome. Choosing a care home for a loved one was the most difficult decision I have ever made. But one, I have never regretted, as Lucerne House is exceptional .
This home is friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Spotlessly clean and provide excellent care to my mum. Food is very good and have activities going on every day. They are treated with dignity and all the staff are excellent. Safety and security is excellent.
Sadly my father only had a couple of weeks at Lucerne but the care both he and I received was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Their knowledge and kindness made a difficult time so much easier. Thank you and I'm sorry he did not have longer with you xx
Starting from the top, the best part of this care home is the staff, they are amazing. From the manager all the way through, they cannot do enough for residents and guests alike. The food is really good as are the choices The gardens are immaculate The entertainment staff are really good and my mum loves the music and craft sessions. The en-suite rooms are spacious and cosy as is the living room and other amenity areas. Most importantly, my mum is really settled, safe, happy and has lots of fiends in both the staff and residents alike. Thanks for everything you do at Lucerne
I very rarely write reviews... I hadn't been in a dementia ward before and I did wonder (and worry) what it might be like spending a lot of time visiting my Mum in one - somewhere where every resident suffers from the condition. But my time on the Memory Lane ward was a genuinely uplifting experience. There was joy, laughter, innocence, humanity and even some friendships formed. I didn't ever feel uncomfortable. The nurses and carers were quite simply outstanding - without exception. There was wonderfully supportive, gentle and extremely dignified care given at all times. The care was in plentiful supply too. There was never a time that I couldn't fine a carer or nurse when I needed one. They cared deeply about the families as well as the residents. We were always given detailed updates about Mum. On several occasions, they even brought meals to us when we'd spent the whole day visiting on the ward. Thank goodness we found Lucerne House. I only wish that we had found it sooner.
My late mother was a resident at Lucerne House for nearly two years. Throughout their time, she was treated with unfailing kindness and patience, and I was impressed by the never ending cheerfulness of the staff. Nothing seemed to faze them and they did their utmost to ensure that my mother was comfortable to the end.
Lucerne House is an outstanding home. Every single one of the staff cares deeply about the welfare of our dad. As a family we couldn't have asked for a better place for dad to be cared for. With his advanced dementia the staff are always patient and empathetic to his needs which can be challenging at times. The other thing that really stands out is the way myself and the rest of my family have been welcomed into the Lucerne family. My mum in particular has found new friends and listening ears since Dad has been at Lucerne. I simply cannot praise this home enough. The managers and the team at Lucerne - thank you !
We looked at a number of care homes when trying to find a suitable place for Mum. Barchester Lucerne House Care Home was the only one where we felt 100% comfortable that Mum's needs would be met. We were impressed by the calm, caring atmosphere and well-maintained surroundings at Memory Lane. It was very reassuring to know that Mum was being cared for by carers specially trained in dementia care, during the last six months of her life. Lucerne House comes highly recommended.
We found Barchester Lucerne House Care Home after a somewhat traumatic period where another home was unable to cope with Dad as he kept trying to escape. From the moment he arrived at Lucerne House, he was treated with dignity and respect and surely felt settled there as he didn't try to escape once. The staff were wonderful with him (and all the other residents living with dementia), demonstrating a real understanding of the disease and almost instinctively knowing how best to manage Dad and how to cajole him into doing the things he needed to. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff. From our first contact with the deputy manager, who totally put us at ease at what was a difficult time for us, to our last contact with the head of the dementia unit, who always had time to chat and reassure us, and the carers who stayed behind after the end of their shift to say goodbye to us when we arrived to say our final goodbye to Dad, they were all, without exception, special people.
We chose Barchester Lucerne House Care Home on the basis of the then CQC rating of 'outstanding' and following visits where we saw the lovely care environment and met the home manager, receptionist and staff. Mum had dementia and certainly had some lovely staff looking after her.
My friend had been there since the start of Covid and I found the care he received was lacking in some areas because I had to inform the staff and the Manageress that he had a UTI he had suffered from for many years. He had a catheter and bag fitted and was prone to get infections. I visited approx once a week until I was laid up with a bad hip but when I started visiting again I could not get anyone to open the door. On my last visit which was in November 2023 I noticed that the catheter bag had been removed. I tried to speak to someone but no one was available. Next, I heard he had passed away so on the 19/12/23. I collected the death certificate, then phoned the manageress and was told by her I was not next of kin which was lies as she had known from the start I was named as such with the lady from social services.
My mum suffers dementia, she has been at Lucerne House for fourteen months... I cannot fault the love and care that the staff provide. It is such a sad and cruel disease. Everyone at Lucerne are so welcoming. They always have time for us. I know Mum is safe and looked after. It's like a home from home. The staff go above and beyond, always with a smile. They are all very special people, I cannot thank them enough. I strongly feel they deserve better pay and sick pay. The high rates we pay should enable this.
I couldn’t have been happier with how my grandad was cared for. All of the staff were on it and went above and beyond in my opinion. I would happily recommend it to anyone. Thank you for caring, it made a real difference.
Our wonderful 98-year-old mum was a resident at Lucerne House for seven months before passing away peacefully just after Christmas. The care Mum received at Lucerne was impeccable. The facilities are excellent, but it's the love, care and compassion of all the staff that make Lucerne House a very special place. Mum struck up bonds with so many of the staff, and from the moment she arrived, we knew that Mum was in safe hands. It's striking that so many of the staff have worked at Lucerne for a long time, and I think that tells a story in itself. We're a large family, so there was a procession of visitors to see Mum on a daily basis, and we were always made to feel very welcome. Mum was clearly very happy at Lucerne, participating in the activities and generally experiencing the best possible quality of life given her deteriorating health. We have nothing but praise for the general manager and her amazing team, and we will forever be grateful for the care and love that Mum received at Lucerne House.
I visited my friend recently after his move from another care home and I was so happy that the move had been made. My friend wasn't well but the genuine love, care and compassion from the staff made me feel so at ease, knowing that he was getting the best possible care. Staff were so attentive. There were drinks and snacks within his reach and staff checked on him regularly; asking if he needed anything. I could tell that the staff had a genuine passion for the roles that they have and I cannot thank you all enough for making his last months the best they could be.
I am so pleased to have found a care home with such wonderful staff and facilities. You hear such terrible stories about care homes. So I am lucky to have found you.
Moving Mum, who has dementia, out of her home of 50-plus years was a traumatic experience for our whole family. However, the transition to her living in Lucerne House couldn't have gone better. The management is helpful and friendly, and the staff are absolute angels! Mum loves them, and to know she is safe, less lonely, and so brilliantly cared for is a huge comfort to us all.
