View Full Details of Abigail Lodge Care HomeMam was in two care homes before coming to Abigail Lodge on a permanent basis in July 2024. We researched and visited several care homes before accepting a place here. Although requiring some updating the home is clean, tidy and welcoming. Staff are friendly and approachable and will always find time to discuss any issues relating to mam. They will approach or contact us of anything we need to be informed of. They are quick to respond if Mam needs assistance and make sure she's kept clean and well presented. Mam doesn't choose to leave her room often but activites staff will try to involve her, especially with special events, such as Mother's Day, Easter. We are very happy with the care Mam is receiving.
Abigail Lodge has recently been taken over and I am more than please that the new owners Harbour Healthcare have retained the staff as they are what make Abigail Lodge what it is a Caring, Loving environment. I have nothing but high praise for them as the work is never ending (my wife is on the EMI wing) and they deal with residents with complex issues and yet they still manage to smile . The Activities Staff (they now have another name but I can't remember it) are trying all different approaches to entertain and stimulate the residents and would if allowed provide more but are limited by the number of hours they are allocated to work, shame. I would not hesitate to recommend this Home to family and friends.
The home took my husband in for respite at very short notice. It is clean and welcoming set in calm and pretty grounds. All staff were friendly and introduced themselves to us including the activities coordinator. My husband has a rare, little known condition and did not want to go into EMI and neither did he need nursing care. I had taken in some information on his condition which the Managers were willing to read and inform their staff with the information. He was treated with respect and liked the staff enjoying conversations with them when possible. His stay underlined that he needed more one to one support this is reflected in my safety and security answer as he was in the general residence. I would use the facility again.
I was at Abigail Lodge from Monday 10th to Monday 17th March 2025 for respite care. I was diagnosed with mixed dementia in July 2024 and this was my second visit which I again enjoyed very much it gives me a break and a more much needed break for my wife and daughter, who look after me full time. Many thanks.
I moved into the home for respite care and it has been good. I cannot single anyone out as all of the staff have been good to me.
My mother recently stayed at Abigail Lodge Care Home after a slip in the bedroom. She was very delicate and weary after the slip and was welcomed at Abigail for six weeks of respite by friendly staff who made her very comfortable. They allowed us to bring in her own chair and TV to make to room more homely. As she has special dietary needs the staff at Abigail made every effort with her diet. I always found every staff member courteous to her and enjoyed spending time with her. I would highly recommend this care home.
Mam's first Christmas at Abigail Lodge Care Home and what a lovely time she's had. The staff have certainly made her and my Christmas special. It's not easy having loved ones away from the family celebrations but it's been made a lot less heartbreaking for the family with the staff at Abigail and the joy they give. Many thanks to everyone involved in Mam's care.
I find Abigail Lodge Care Home great, the staff are wonderful, very polite and always there when you need them and always on time with medication. I really enjoyed the food that I received every day and there is always plenty of choice. The activities team always have a great selection of entertainment including fairs and outside entertainment, movie days and Christmas parties. They always make sure they keep residents up to date with what is going on. Laundry is fantastic, clothes are always washed, ironed and put away in the wardrobe. Overall can't fault anything within Abigail Lodge. Really enjoyed my short time here and would definitely recommend it to friends and family.
My dad went to Abigail Lodge Care Home for end-of-life care, he was only in residence for less than a week. The staff treated my dd with sensitivity, dignity and care, he and I were looked in on repeatedly to check on my dad and any needs we may have had. I could see as my dad began to deteriorate it affected the staff as it did me. When my dad passed the staff were there for me, I couldn't have asked for any more than what they did. Thank you to all at Abigail Lodge.
Mum has been a resident at Abigail Lodge for almost 2 years and I have been very happy with all aspects of her care. The most important part of any care home is the staff and the staff at Abigail Lodge are excellent - professional, friendly, welcoming and always helpful. My mother is always treated with respect and dignity and the care assistants do a brilliant job in a very demanding and stressful environment. Abigail Lodge is usually full of chatter and laughter and Mum has always appreciated the time that the staff have taken to chat to her. The kitchen staff do a tremendous job and the food is well presented and looks really tasty. The Activities staff also do a brilliant job and there is always something going on to try and occupy/entertain the residents. The staff are always ready to answer any questions and are straight on the telephone if there are any issues with Mum. Abigail Lodge is not a modern building and would benefit from a little refurbishment but it is the staff and the level of care which are most important!
Main concern - meals and lack of variety. Considering my husband is vegetarian he very rarely is given vegetables. Not given a balanced healthy diet. Does not use facilities as bedbound so can't comment/rate this. Also, the same for activities. Not being placed in a chair on a daily basis and also not being showered on a regular basis. My husband has Alzheimer's and cancer and is waiting for his hearing aids and on occasions, care staff have snapped at him which has upset my husband and family.
My mam is in this home and has got the same care assistants who look after her, they do an excellent job. She laughs and smiles with them, they make her feel at home. Activities are amazing, the women who do this are amazing, they get her singing and doing things, l try to join in as much as l can.
My Aunt receives a high standard of care and is clearly settled and happy in her surroundings. She is included in activities and particularly enjoys holding small animals during pet visits. I feel supported by staff who are always helpful and pleasant.
Quite good.
The home is well kept and in good condition and is well decorated.
Kind and courteous service was delivered confidently to my Mother. The staff did everything to recognise, relate and respond to residents and their families. The staff are very supportive and accommodating of family visits. Thanks for the care and for exceeding expectations.
My husband spent the last three weeks of his life here. All the family were delighted with the care he received. The staff couldn't do enough for him. I could recommend this home with top marks.
Lack of staff is a major issue. The EMI unit is understaffed. One-one carers for individual residents counted in the staffing number is unacceptable, lack of staff results in lack of dignity for residents who are unable to toilet themselves. My Father is incontinent and is given a clean pad morning and night but is not checked or changed at any other time of the day resulting in a regularly sore groin area. Again not enough staff-to-resident ratio at meal times for residents who need to be fed. Food served on the EMI unit is of a very poor standard the majority of the time.
I think the care home itself needs an update, there are not plenty of staff on the dementia floor, more so at meal times when some of the residents sit in the dining room waiting for their meals while staff are having to feed those who can't get out of bed. The food in Abigail is not up to standard. The staff on that floor do their best. My husband passed away in February 2024.
Ok, taking good care of my wife.
