View Full Details of Madeira Lodge Care HomeMy mum is in Madeira Lodge and has been for nearly a year now. She seems happy, and the staff are absolutely brilliant. I feel a lot happier knowing that my mum is being well looked after and cared for.
Mum was reluctant to go in a home. However her dementia meant she was no longer safe to be left at home. I wanted to let mum settle in before writing a review so I could give an honest opinion. Here goes, I haven't seen mum look so lively and well in a long time. At home she was disengaged, staring into space and not looking after herself. She is now extremely happy and it shows in her face every time we go. She looks 10 years younger. Staff go above and beyond. They genuinely care about their clients. You can see it is more than just a job. The care and devotion is second to none. I've heard staff singing with them and encouraging activities. Mum hasn't stopped going on about the live singer with his guitar. She has gone from being a loner to really enjoying herself. She loves it there. Mum is now eating properly, they know she picks fish every time but still give her a choice. I would recommend this home every time just for the care of the staff alone. Thank you for what you do.
On arriving for the first time, I thought the home itself was very pleasant, nicely furnished, and had a very homely feel to it. Although all the carers were very friendly, I observed how the carers interacted with the service users. Well, there was no interaction at all! They stood almost on guard, chatting to each other, there was no trying to interact at all with residents. Only did a service user stand up, that they would approach to be told to sit down. No magazines, books + just sitting, staring into space or falling asleep through boredom.
Mum has been a resident for nearly 4 years now. The care / support she receives is brilliant, if she needs anything all she has to do is ask. Always treated with dignity and respect by ALL staff, they are one big happy family, nothing is too much trouble for mum or me as a visitor! All rooms are always cleaned everyday to an excellent standard. Mum enjoys the food which they can choose from a menu, snacks/drinks are offered during every morning and afternoon if wanted. Carers will engage with activities if needed or required. Residents can watch TV in any of the 2 lounges. The home has regular singers in every month throughout the year. They hold summer events in the sunny garden/lounges for special days e.g. mothers day/fathers day/ easter etc on-site hairdresser available. Residents that are able to go on trips to the beach/ NR train etc. Mums feels happy/ safe/ settled at Madeira Lodge
I am very pleased that I found my sister Madeira Lodge. She is always smiling and very happy. The staff are wonderful with her. They are very friendly, helpful and efficient. The Home is kept very clean and run efficiently. I do not have any complaints about her being in there at all.
My dad has been in Madeira Lodge since February this year, he was not keen to go into care, my brother and I needn't have worried, the staff there are friendly and caring. Dad loves them to bits and they love him. Even if he's had the slightest tumble they let us know. He is always clean and tidy, well groomed and as smart as possible for someone that spills his dinner down himself (bless him). He is always having a laugh and joking with the staff. He is always very well-fed. His room is always clean and tidy with fresh clothes hanging in his wardrobe. Thank you, Madeira Lodge.
The staff are all friendly and helpful, and the residents who have different levels of need appear to be well cared for and well supported. The management has made magnificent efforts to make the home welcoming and 'user friendly'. I could not be more pleased with Madeira Lodge.
My ex-husband was admitted to Maderia Lodge after a very traumatic experience in a hospital and a care home a long way from home. I was unable to visit regularly and he became very distressed which they were unable to manage. He was labelled aggressive but the managers saw that to the man he was. Since the day he was admitted, he liked it and settled well with the help of the staff and their care and is happy and content.
Our experience of the home continues to be mixed and, whilst in recent weeks, the level of care has improved, we have previously been left upset and frustrated by the overall treatment and well-being of my husband. He wears nappies and on our daily visits, we found them heavily soiled. This was clearly distressing and uncomfortable for him, and due to this, we found our visits became less about spending time together and more about cleaning up and settling him down. His bedroom was left unclean and on several occasions, excrement was found everywhere, as he had been left unsupervised. This isn’t acceptable. We are pleased to see that, since bringing this to the staff’s attention, conditions have improved and we greatly hope this continues. His meal plan has not been followed, which has often left him with an upset stomach. Fish/seafood should never be considered a food option for him. He does not have the capability to make his own decisions with this and cannot eat without support.
Our mum has been at this home for 3 years. The care at this home is exemplary. Our mum has been poorly for weeks and unable to get out of bed, the care and love of all the staff is faultless. She hasn't eaten for a while, they will get her what she fancies and the encouragement by staff is second to none. Pleased to say we have got over the last few weeks, all because of the devotion of these wonderful staff.
My mum has only been here for five days, she came from another home. This home is wonderful, the staff are kind, friendly, helpful and there are plenty of them. So far it's been a good experience.
As from my last review, Madeira Lodge continues to go above and beyond. The staff are superb in what they do, more importantly, my mum is very settled and content. If I ask for anything they are always very obliging and will do their utmost to accommodate whatever needs we may ask for. Again I cannot stress how happy I am with Mum being there. Keep up the great work your staff are doing!
The staff are very friendly and the residents are well cared for. The rooms are clean. The surroundings are bright, decorated with pictures and things the residents have made. They sometimes have entertainers.
Visited my Mum several times over a few days during a recent visit to Kent. Mum was enjoying the activities provided and the care she was receiving from all the staff was excellent, who were all treating her with kindness, dignity and respect.
Lovely visit, staff and management have worked so hard to make this visit so special, many, many thanks.
My mother in law became a resident at Madeira Lodge in June 2023. The kindness and care shown to her is outstanding and the understanding of her dementia is high. The home is bright and residents are free to wander throughout the home. Activities are undertaken with the residents daily and families are encouraged to visit and participate in these and made to feel welcome. Staff support both the resident and families in this challenging time
An excellent Hawaii themed BBQ party. Such a lot of work undertaken in all areas - welcomed with a garland of flowers, lovely food and drink, all combined to make a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon where residents and visitors felt relaxed. Thank you.
The BBQ was pleasant, was nice to see everyone enjoying the day. The staff were helpful and understanding.
Lovely home, a caring environment that clearly understands the needs of dementia patients. The family are encouraged to participate in activities. Thank you for all care.
