View Full Details of DeerhurstI can't put into words how grateful I am of this home. My best friend of only 46 years old, unfortunately has dementia was placed in a nursing home for the last couple of years. Her previous home she was neglected in many ways. I was looking for a new home for her and came across Deerhurst and oh my goodness me from stepping through the doors. I knew this was the place for her. The manager, her team go above and beyond to ensure every resident is valued and cared for to the highest standard. They look after all of their residents like they are part of their family. You can see this as you wonder around the home there's not one resident is in their room. They are all enjoying the amazing amount of activities that are going on. My friend has improved so much her mood has been lifted every picture of her. I see of her smiling away, brings me so much joy. I'm so grateful to you all. Five stars is not enough.Xx
Shhh...don't tell anyone about the fantastic caring home nestled between Kingswood and Soundwell called Deerhurst. Mum has been a resident for over a year. Every time you think they cannot improve on the care or experiences for the residents living there, they do. The residents have the opportunity to live their final years fully, doing things they enjoy with love, care and support from all the staff and volunteers. Nothing is too much trouble or beyond the staff to organise. It is not only the residents that are supported and cared for, the relatives are as well. When we first walked into Deerhurst I noticed a poster saying "Our residents do not live in our workplace - we work in their home" and it is so true, it is their home filled with love, laughter, fun, care and support. When mum moved into Deerhurst she was lost and haunted by her dementia but now she has a lovely rapport with all the staff, her eyes say it all, they are sparkly and she smiles a lot. I couldn't ask for more.
My father in law has been a resident of the home for the past year. We made the very difficult decision to move him to the home after his dementia and general health declined. It was the best decision the day to day worry about his well being and safety has been removed. All the staff at Deerhurst have been very welcoming to him and us. The home provides a bright and cheerful environment. They have take time to get to know his likes and habits, nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. There are a huge amount of activities on offer in the home, which are enjoyed by the residents and relatives are always welcome to join in. The manager's door is always open and all the staff are approachable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this care home to anyone looking for care for a loved one.
This year, my father moved to Deerhurst after previously living alone. From the moment he arrived, the entire team has worked hard to make him feel welcome, adapting to his needs and making him feel at home. I have confidence that any issues that arise have been and will be addressed promptly, and we will always be consulted and can feel secure that he is as safe as he can be.
Deerhurst is like the answer to a prayer. My partner is being looked after by wonderful, caring people who know him very well and are understanding of all his moods. He has Alzheimers and can sometimes get quite stroppy, but the staff are unfailingly patient with him. There are activities every day to provide stimulus, lots of music and laughter, it's a very happy place. The staff are constantly updating their training, they are so empathetic and so, so caring to residents and families alike.
Every time I visit my friend in Deerhurst, I am improved by the pleasant, welcoming and colourful decor, the friendly acceptance of the very caring and capable staff. I also love their attitude to the residents, calm, loving and understanding. Nothing is too much trouble. My friend is always clean and tidy. His needs are immediately noted and dealt with. There are plenty of varied and nutritious meals, served individually for each resident.
My mother was previously in 2 other care homes but was not happy. She has now been in Deerhurst for 2 months & I have seen a big improvement in her well being. She really likes the staff & is always saying how kind they are. Plus she likes the food. She especially enjoys the activities & outings.
Deerhurst is a true 'home' in the real sense of the word. Our dad has had wonderful quality of life despite his advanced dementia. We know that the staff truly care for him, and understand dementia. They are positive, caring, professionals who fully respect the dignity and 'whole person' of individuals. We have never had a second's worry about his care there in 8 years (could many places say that?). Worry about him - yes of course: during Covid, when we could not see him and who knew what would happen; when he has had pain or illness, or times/ days when he seems less happy or calm. But this is life - we all have to deal with these things. What we have not had to worry about is his care around these things. In fact, the opposite: we know that Deerhurst and the wonderful team understand him, the challenges when they come, and how to make everything the best it can be; whilst also respecting our deep family knowledge and understanding of our dad. We are extremely fortunate he's there.
The care shown here is exceptional. When my husband moved in, the staff immediately set to work getting to know him, his background and his family. Within a day, we were all greeted by name which made us feel that we'd joined one big family. The support we've received is beyond anything we expected. Staff are all very professional - they are so good that they make their jobs look easy - and we all appreciate how difficult their work must be! I was told that the staff don't come in to do a job, they come in to help residents live their best lives, and that feeling really comes across. Deerhurst is colourful and vibrant but also feels relaxed and homely. So much thought has gone into making it suitable for people with dementia, and the activities programme is insane, with several activities on each day, and day trips out. To be this good takes brilliant leadership, and the Manager is outstanding - approachable, involved, aware - the respect she has from her team is well deserved.
My mother has been a resident at Deerhurst Care Home for 3 and a half years. We have been through different stages in her care needs and Deerhusrsy staff ansd manaement have alwys done everything in their power to help and support both my mum and myself. It is difficult being a relative of someone in a care home and I haven't always been easy - probably quite demanding (sorry!) but staff and management have always listened to my concerns. I am so very grateful for all they have done and continue to do.
Relative always wanted to be here. Staff have made a very difficult transition from marital home of over 60 years. Could have been very traumatic, but the care and compassion made it much easier for resident and relatives alike. Resident has gained a new lease of life, joining in activities, and happily chatting about her experiences when we visit. Care and housekeeping staff do an excellent job, and it's reassuring to the family that she has settled so well. A big thank you to all concerned.
Deerhurst was the best decision we made for my late father. He was a resident for exactly 12 years and it was the best 12 years he had since he needed care. The team went above and beyond daily, providing outstanding care from the moment he moved in. They were there every single step of the way and even now checking in even after Dads death. It truly felt like family was caring for him, the staff turnover is so low that the same staff who met him when he moved in were holding his hand at the end. The entire team is what it is because of the amazing Manager, who not only supported him, but us as a family. Nothing was ever a problem, they handled the COVID pandemic incredibly and the residents were kept so safe and the families were kept up to date with everything. The home itself is gorgeous and very very well kept. Thank you Deerhurst, as always x
Deerhurst is an amazing home. It epitomises the term 'client-centred'. The residents are encouraged to take part in as many activities as possible. The activity programme is extensive and both in-house staff and external providers are experienced and innovative. Nursing and care staff are kind, patient and professional. The management team are highly experienced, clear in their goals and an integral part of daily life at Deerhurst. I have total trust that my mother will be in safe hands at all times. I wish all care homes were like Deerhurst.
My sister-in-law has been in Deerhurst for nearly two years. From the beginning, we were impressed by the kind professional leadership of the personnel in charge, and all the staff, and this has not changed. The clients are well cared for and treated with kindness and compassion. There are so many interesting activities which I know must involve extra work and commitment from the staff. It is by far the best care home I have visited.
I honestly thank my lucky stars that my dad and I found Deerhurst. The staff are incredible. You can tell that everyone is happy by the way they operate, kind, giving of time and incredibly caring. Dad is thriving on the company and the activities, not to mention the meals. I've also attended carer specific events to learn about how better to communicate with someone with dementia and to get support from others. It was really good. All in all, I feel blessed that Dad (and I) are in such a good care environment.
My Mother has been at Deerhurst for just over 17 months due to dementia and mobility issues and in that time she has been looked after so well by the amazing, caring staff. Whenever she has needed anything they have gone out of their way to ensure she has what she needs with kindness and understanding and she is always treated with respect and dignity and I know that she appreciates this as much as I do. The manager of Deerhurst is an understanding person who listens and will do all she can for the residents in her care. There are many activities available for the residents ranging from games, singing, dancing to therapy animals and outdoor activities. Whenever we visit we are greeted warmly and it feels as though you are in someone's home and part of the family. I can't speak highly enough of the amazing staff including the helpful admin and laundry staff and would recommend Deerhurst to those seeking a kind, happy, caring home for their loved one.
All members of staff greet and talk to my 'dad' with affection and care. They are welcoming and helpful to visitors too and never respond grumpily. Wonderful activities are organised almost daily with entertainers, food and drink tastings, pampering, games and physical tasks eg: dancing and boccia, and more. Residents are also taken on day trips regularly. Lastly, the food and drink, always available and plentiful, is fantastic.
My husband of 61 years, the family doctor and I realised he needed extra care which I couldn't give him. We were offered 2 weeks' respite so I looked around for a suitable home and when I drove into Deerhust car park I knew this was a welcoming home. The atmosphere inside was so happy and bright. The staff were amazing. We were offered a full-time placement so August 1st 2022 our lives changed especially for my husband. He was given the care and compassion he could ever want. The activities were amazing and there are lots. Canal barge trips, farms, etc. Fun days inside, tiny tots, games, even donkeys! therapy animals. Unfortunately his dementia has worsened and he's now confined to a wheelchai,r but the staff go out of their way to make. Sure he's included when possible and he can live his life with dignity. The amazing staff always make time to listen to you. The manager is always available to help if you are having a wobble! I would happily recommend Deerhust to anyone needing a kind and caring home for their loved one.
My mum who has severe dementia moved from a care home to Deerhurst about six months ago. The care home were doing their best but simply weren't set up to support mum's ever increasing needs. I quickly felt relieved that mum was now in the right place. Why? The Deerhurst team quickly got on top of her pain and ensured she avoided pressure sores developing. Over the following months I have seen the staff show mum so much genuine affection and compassion - she is the focus. Staff have been able to connect with mum on a different level. There is evidently a strong ethos of trying to include everyone where possible in activities - even if this presents challenges. Right across the organisation, including management and support staff, you see staff passionately wanting to support residents to have the best lives possible and having a laugh along the way! It's great to see and humbling. I could not recommend them enough!
My experience of the home and its staff has been very good. The care provided to my wife and me has been beyond what was expected. I found the staff particularly caring and focused on attention to detail. The care home manager is dedicated to her role.
