View Full Details of Thornton Hall & Lodge Care HomeMy dad spent the last 18 months of his life here and we couldn't have asked for better care. He had Alzheimer's and complex care needs linked to cancer and the staff were incredibly kind, skilled, and supportive. Dad was happy, settled, and treated with dignity throughout. As his needs increased, the team continued to meet them with compassion and professionalism. They had a good relationship with district nurses and palliative care and always asked for medical support when needed. The home is always clean, bright, fresh, with beautiful gardens and a great range of daily activities that residents can choose to join. My dad loved the food cakes & treats. The staff, from carers, cleaners and managers are warm and welcoming, they know the residents by name. Thanks to their outstanding care, my dad was able to pass peacefully at 'home'. I'm so grateful to the whole team and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking for kind, dedicated care for a loved one with Alzheimer's
The staff at Thornton truly care about our family member, they support him the best they can. He is fed well and they keep an eye on him when he goes wandering. He is kept clean and tidy as is his room and all communal areas ans gardens. They source medical assistance when required and fully support any decision we make. They are friendly, caring and do their best in trying situations. Thank you for taking care of him like your own
My mum came into the home October 2024. She has settled in really well, and been made to feel welcome. The staff who look after her are so nice, friendly and kind. They give her the utmost care, which is why she has settled so quickly. When visiting the staff are very warm and welcoming, and friendly. Which give it a lovely atmosphere.
Lovely staff. So kind and caring. Clean rooms. Nothing too much trouble. Kind to us as the family. Supportive. Lovely atmosphere. Encouraging clients to maintain their dignity and independence.
Mum has settled well and I am delighted with the care and attention she has received. The staff are very kind.
My expereince in Thornton Hall is excellent. I find the staff very, very good, treat you with respect and dignity. Management and staff are excellent.
I'm a friend of a resident. Staff are very friendly and helpful and look after the residents wonderfully. They are all well-fed and happy. Place is always clean. The social events are fantastic - everyone dancing. Lots of food.
Thornton Hall is easily accessible by public transport and also has an ample car park. On entering the building, welcoming staff greet you with a smile and a bit of banter. Inside, the carers strive to maintain a tidy, hygienic environment and keep the residents groomed and clean. There is an excellent programme of activities and daily menu on the notice board. Family and friends are always welcome to join in. There is a beautiful, well-kept, safe, garden with benches and a table under a gazebo. I like to walk with my brother there, so he can get a bit of fresh air and exercise, and snack and play a board game or do a jigsaw together. My brother doesn't know where he is, but I feel rest assured he is in the best place.
My lovely mum passed away in the home on Wednesday 24th July. I would like to thank all the staff from the office day staff and night staff and the cleaners. I could not have wished for better people to look after Mum - her care and mine was impeccable. Thank you to everyone.
My mum has been at Thornton Hall for 18 months. Mum has received outstanding care and support. The staff are amazing, they treat Mum with dignity and respect. They care for her needs in the most professional way. The staff do an extremely demanding job and should be highly commended for the outstanding quality of care they provide.
My mum moved in a few months back and surprisingly settled in fairly quickly. The staff are very kind and considerate to the residents. Facilities are ideal. My mum thinks the food could be improved on.
Mum lasted 2 weeks here. In that time she had 4 falls, of which 3 resulted in hospital admissions and 1 needed a paramedic visit. 2 of the falls were from the same chair on consecutive days. The last fall resulted in readmission to hospital, who phoned the care home to find out why she was back again. Thornton told the hospital that they could not meet her needs after all and refused to take her back. This was despite us giving Thornton a worst case pen picture of Mum's needs, to which they replied that they could definitely accommodate her. Numerous things were promised at the start, such as a sleep monitoring system, and I even suggested a low bed so, if she fell, it would only be from knee height. None of this materialised in the period she was there. Finally, when she first arrived, we stocked her wardrobe with clothes which were individually labelled with her name. Within 3 days, loads of her stuff had disappeared, way too much for her to have worn in that time.
Mum been here for 5 years with dementia. Staff are great and very patient as she is at times violent. Always get updates on her well-being. They are always doing activities and the garden area is beautiful.
We are delighted that Dad has settled in and is being encouraged to take part in activities and that he enjoys taking part actively. The staff are excellent, caring and supportive. It is a lovely atmosphere and Dad has built up some nice relationships and friendships.
My sister is new to Thornton Hall I have found the main care staff and cleaners to be very helpful and caring and go above and beyond for my sister's care. Her room was fully decorated when she first arrived being able to bring her own personal items as a bonus. The reception and office staff are always friendly, and helpful and listen to any issues or concerns. The food menu could be improved not nutritional, not much protein or vegetables. Clothes go missing even though they do not go to the laundry. Lack of communication when reporting issues or requests with management emails are ignored. The dining area needs improving, and the gardens are maintained.
My sister and I are so reassured about the care and safety of our mother at Thornton Hall. From reception, office (finance) to care staff, cleaners and caterers, entertainment and management (plus anyone not mentioned) we note the excellence of your team. The room facilities are of the highest quality and the wider resident experience. Thoughtful entertainment/social events maintain mental and physical stimulation. We consider ourselves fortunate that care of such high quality is available for our mother. Thank you.
My sister is very happy and more relaxed since coming to Thornton Hall and Lodge Care Home. She has settled in and is always walking about, so much so she will wonder off to have a chat with other residents. I only hope she can stay here for her future wellbeing. I see a vast different in her moods in her day to day dealings and involvements with all the staff. She has no problems, so I have no cares about her ongoing welfare whilst she remains in Thornton Hall and Lodge Care Home.
I always find Thornton Hall & Lodge Care Home to be welcoming and bright. Smells are kept to a minimum as rooms are refreshed when necessary. I have been to other care homes where this is not the case. The staff smile and are very approachable. When the mayoress visited, nothing needed to change as it was always nice.
Mum has been staying here for almost three years in the dementia (lodge) side of Thornton Hall. As this is the only care home I have experienced with Mum, I can't compare it with others. Overall, Mum appears to be well treated but I have no idea what her day-to-day routine is as I get little to no communication from management (apart from social media posts). A good idea would be for a forum to be created between friends and families of the residents to share experiences to improve the facility for both residents and staff. I can see lots of potential to improve this care home for all.
The reception is very good. Some changes to the lodge lounge. The chairs are not very good, uncomfortable. Dining tables could be set out at meal times (re table cloths). This is just my opinion.
