View Full Details of The HawthornesAt a difficult time for both family and parents, the staff were so loving and encouraging, professional and compassionate, just what is needed. Any issues were dealt with very quickly, and nothing was too much trouble. Visiting was always a nice experience despite the difficult time we were having as a family. Can't thank them enough for everything.
Shocking behaviour from some of the staff (not all ). You can tell its just a job. My mum was in less than 6 weeks and in the first 3 weeks I discovered she had not been showered or bathed despite being an infection risk. When I challenged this shocking revelation I was informed they had forgot to put mum on the care plan and the team member would let her manager know straight away, they then tried to back track saying she was on a different care plan!!! ( one that clearly doesn't keep the residents clean then I guess ) they tried to blame mum by stating she refused which she hadn't. she wouldn't. When they showered her that evening after complaining she loved it, the team rang me and I could hear her enjoying herself and having a laugh. The manager didn't appear to be that bothered either, not very approachable. less than 6 weeks my mum sadly passed away due to Sepsis.
We are writing with heavy hearts to say goodbye to this wonderful place, as our beloved dad, passed away on April 4th. My sister and I want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you - the carers, kitchen staff, laundry, and cleaners - for the love, care, and kindness you showed Dad during his time here. Your dedication and compassion helped him live longer than we expected, and for that, we are eternally grateful. The receptionist warm welcome and smile every morning brightened our days, and the management, were exceptional in every way. HER support and understanding made a huge difference to Dad's stay and our peace of mind. If you're looking for a truly lovely and friendly care home, we would highly recommend The Hawthornes without hesitation. The commitment to care and support is truly second to none. My sister and I will deeply miss the friendships we've built with everyone here. XX
I couldn't ask for a more kind a caring place for my mum to be looked after. She's been at The Hawthornes since September 2023 and has always been well cared for with all her needs met. I can't praise the staff enough who always make me feel welcome, and answer any questions I have. It's reassuring to know mum is looked after by such lovely people.
My Dad has since passed away April 25 after spending 13 months in the care home without an adjustable bed was not able to sit up and have breakfast in bed in all his time At Hawthornes, Family had to buy Dad a new Mattress. Dad was self funding £1000 a week and had to buy his own mattress. This home failed my father and The food is atrocious. Current T cake for tea.
Excellent care. No complaints.
Dad is very well cared for. He has Alzheimer's and does not have full capacity. I needed to speak to dad about the property he owns and asked if a member of staff could accompany me. The lady on reception spoke with the manager and it was agreed. A senior member of staff did so. We discussed how to proceed in dad's best interests before speaking to dad. The conversation went very well indeed and dad was happy throughout. A testament to working together in Dads best interests. Thank you As an extra, I have had to deal with cancer for the past 15 months and everyone at The Hawthorne's has been exemplary in their support of dad and myself through this. I cannot thank you enough!
Mum is very well cared for at The Hawthornes. She enjoys the food, company and an increase in social interactions. Her room is lovely with ensuite facilities and a patio door onto the garden. Everywhere is kept immaculately clean and the staff are caring and attentive at all times.
I feel safe, secure and cared for at The Hawthornes. The staff are attentive despite how busy they are. They have endless patience, however we could do with more of them. I have a lovely sunny room and can bring pictures and ornaments from home as I wish.
Particularly pleased with the friendliness and overall care from the staff at the Hawthorns.
My sister has been a resident at Hawthornes Birkenshaw for 8 weeks now. During that time I have found her well cared for. Staff are very friendly, obliging and professional. She is enjoying having company and feels happy and content. Her room is lovely and she enjoys the meals so much she has put some of her weight back on. She keeps telling me how much she likes the Hawthornes. I am so happy for her and glad she feels so settled.
I found my stay at The Hawthornes in February 2025 excellent. The staff were on hand whenever I needed them, they treated me with care and consideration. I could not have asked for more.
My aunt has been a resident since July 2023 and has been well cared for throughout this time. She enjoys the food which she says is excellent - her only complaint is that there is too much and the cups of tea aren't very nice! On the occasions when medical assistance has been required, each incident has been dealt with professionally and with compassion and I have been kept informed at all times. The atmosphere is very welcoming and there is always someone available to answer any questions I may have regarding her ongoing care. Overall, I have great confidence in the manager and her team at The Hawthornes.
Having been at The Hawthorns for 12 months we are confident our mum is well looked after and cared for. She is encouraged to socialise by going to the dining room for meals and taking part in the many fun activities on offer. We will always be grateful to the manager for making all the necessary arrangements for Mum to move in at short notice and is always available to reassure us when we have any concerns. The Hawthorns has a friendly, family atmosphere where everyone works very hard and nothing is too much trouble.
Since my mother-in-law has been in the home she has become more settled and is very happy, I can't thank the staff enough for what they have done for her and are always there if we need to talk even when short-staffed.
My Mum has been a permanent resident since July 2024. She loves all the staff and they love her, she enjoys her food but said it could be better. Her room is ok but small, she has her own reclining chair from her home, a walker, commode, Zimmer and a food trolly. So very little room, we have put her belongings into her room, but feel it could be more homely. Also feels the activities could be more interesting.
Since my mother-in-law has been a resident at Hawthorne's care home she is a much happier person more confident and very settled. The carers have really got to know her and show her so much love and support. It really does feel like home from home. She always looks very clean and tidy and little things like getting her nails painted go a long way. She always loved drawing and painting when she lived at home and the staff have brought this out in her again something she hadn't been able to do for a long time - by spending time with her she has enjoyed this hobby again.
My overall experience of my dad's care home has been a very friendly, helpful care home from management to cleaning staff to cooking and nursing staff. Dad's settled in nicely and he's happy I'm happy. I always feel welcome in the home and it's a credit to The Hawthornes.
I attended The Hawthornes for a look around in view of my mother moving there for long-term care. I received a very warm welcome from the member of staff showing me around. She was very friendly and professional and knowledgeable about the home. The residents all looked content and happy. The home was clean and modern with nice outside space. The room I was shown was very bright and airy. All in all a great experience and I felt my mother would settle here.
Since taking the decision for my mum to go into The Hawthornes we have seen an improvement in Mum's health and well-being. She is happy at the home and the staff are friendly and willing to answer questions we may have about Mum when we visit. Mum's room is always clean and also Mum is cared for and this shows in her much-improved appearance.
